Tekulve, Pirates Nip Mets at Shea

Flushing, NY - The defending NL East champs didn't sit on their laurels in the offseason as several new players will compete to bring consecutive division titles to the Steel City. It was a familiar trio of pitchers however that led them to victory on opening day as Rick Reuschel, Sam McDowell and Kent Tekulve combined to defeat the Mets. Tekulve was stellar in 2.1 innings allowing the Bucs to mount a comeback from a 3-1 deficit. Jose Cardenal homered for the Mets. Not much is expected of New York this season as this division is predicted to be a repeat of 1975's battle of Pennsylvania with some noise about St. Louis being a dark horse to contend.
