Rasmussen Masterful as Cards Edge Phils

St, Louis, MO - Just like Candelaria for the Expos, the Cardinals Eric Rasmussen built off a strong 1975 finish with a ten strikeout performance on opening day. Rasmussen and Littell walked none and struck out eleven total, the only blemish a two-run Sixto Lezcano home run in the 7th. Lou Brock - coming off a dreadful 1975 campaign - drove Ted Simmons in twice to lead the way offensively for the Cardinals. Philadelphia infielder Terry Harmon did extend his hitting streak to 26-games dating back to the end of last season in the losing effort.
