Chicago 4 at Montreal 3
-Steve Ontiveros (10) and Adrian Garrett (23) homered and Ray Burris (10-9, 3.92) earned the win as the Cubs hand the Expos their 8th straight defeat
Pittsburgh 0 at New York 2

The Lumber Company wasn’t in business tonight as Randy Tate (3-6, 4.28) and Bob Apodaca (12Sv, 3.44) combine on the five hitter. Tate allowed seven walks in six innings but the Bucs strand eleven.
Philadelphia 2  at St. Louis 6

Jim Dwyer’s 4th home run of the season was a pinch-hit three run home run in the 7th to lift the Cards past the Phils. Eric Rasmussen (14-9, 2.92) and Mark Littell (30Sv, 2.24) with the decisions for St. Louis
Houston 3 at Los Angeles 4
-The Astros tie it in the 9th inning on a Cesar Cedeno bases loaded walk but the usually reliable Ken Forsch (4-5, 2.76) gives up four straight singles in the bottom half as the Dodgers break a four game slide. Ron Cey hit his 16th home run and earned his fourth RBI with the game winning hit.
Cincinnati 4 at San Diego 2
-The Reds get a big performance from Bill Bonham (17-8, 3.10) and Rawly Eastwick (37Sv, 2.13) to pick up a game on the Astros. Joe Morgan (25HR, 67SB) homered and stole another base in the win.

Atlanta 3 at San Francisco 0 (10)-John Montefusco (3.19) and Max Leon (8-3, 2.79) strike out twelve in a one-hit shutout. Darrell Evans's 28th home run was a three-run bomb in the 10th to break the offensive silence at Candlestick.


NL East: The Pirates lead by 11 games
NL West: The Astros lead is down to 3 on the Reds


American League:
Detroit 1 at Baltimore 4
-
The Orioles are 15-1 versus the Tigers as Bobby Grich (23) and pitcher Ross Grimsley (14-8, 3.81) homer off Vern Ruhle (9-12, 4.08)
New York  2  at Cleveland  11
-John Lowenstein (15HR) homered and drove in five as the Indians maul Catfish Hunter (9-12 , 4.40) and the Yankees. Another struggling starter, Rick Waits (8-9, 5.17) got the win.
Boston 2 at Milwaukee 3
-Former Red Sock Cecil Cooper hit his 13th home run of the season and he doubled in the 8th to move along the eventual winning run to 3rd as the Brewers nip Boston. Bill Castro earned his 20th save
Minnesota 11 at Kansas City 12 (11)
-The teams combine for 38 hits and 5 errors as four Twins had three hits but George Brett (.351) had four – and added five RBI’s. Ruppert Jones scored the winning run by beating Larry Milbourne’s throw home on a Bob Heise bases loaded grounder
California 3 at Texas 0
-Don Baylor hits home run #30 and Tommy John (12-11, 3.77) spins a two-hit shutout as the Angels take the two game set in Arlington
Chicago 0 at Oakland 9
-Another two-hitter, this one by Dick Bosman (12-12, 3.32) of the A’s. Gary Thomasson had three runs and three hits and Cliff Johnson hit home run #23

AL East: The Red Sox lead is trimmed to a half game over the Orioles. The teams play the next two nights at Fenway
AL West:  The Royals lead by 12 games
