Spikes Homer Wins Division for Idle Astros



National League
Philadelphia 9 at New York 3

Sixto Lezcano hit his 19th home run and drove in three as the Phils down the hapless Mets
Cincinnati 4 at Atlanta 5 (10)
-Charlie Spikes 21st home run of the season was the game winner in the bottom of the 10th off Rawly Eastwick (4-6, 2.24) and clinches the NL West for the idle Houston Astros. Chris Chambliss  (.278 15HR) hit two home runs for the second time in three days


NL East: The Pirates have won the division for the second straight season
NL West: The Astros have clinched the NL West


American League:
Boston 5 at Cleveland 3 (11)
-Jim Rice’s 45th home run of the season gives the Red Sox the lead in the 11th. That along with four shutout relief innings from Dick Drago (2.56) and Skip Lockwood (7-7, 2.47) earn  the Red Sox a huge, hard fought victory
New York 6 at Detroit 9
-Bill Freehan (11HR) went 4-for-4 with a home run and Dave Collins swiped his 50th base as the Tigers hang seven on Yankees starter Tom Underwood (13-12, 3.94) in building a 9-1 lead
Texas 3 at Chicago 4 (11)
-Ralph Garr’s single in the 10th wins the game for the White Sox. Bobby Bonds hit his 35th home run in the game for Chicago
California 2 at Oakland 3
- Mike Norris (7-11, 3.49) walks seven but still earns the win for the A’s. Elias Sosa earned his 20th save
AL East: The Red Sox take a half game lead on the idle Orioles – who may have been in the stands watching as they play in Cleveland tomorrow
AL West:  The Royals have clinched the division crown
