Hendricks & DeCinces Go Back-to-Back Twice as O's Keep Pace

Bob Watson drove in two and Fergie Jenkins (17-7, 3.30) went the distance as the Sox stay in 1st with the win
Baltimore 8 at Cleveland 2
-Ellie Hendricks (22HR) and Doug DeCinces (18) hit back to back home runs – twice! – as Mike Torrez (16-10, 3.44) and the O’s win easily. Oscar Gamble joined teammate Gorman Thomas in the 40th home run club for the Tribe.
Detroit 3 at Milwaukee 5

The Tigers are trying to avoid consecutive last place finishes but didn’t help themselves today. Danny Thomas(.331) and Cecil Cooper (.262) accounted for all five Brewer RBI’s

Bobby Bonds (36HR) hit a grand slam in the 9th but it was much too late as the Twins outslug the Sox in the West’s battle to avoid last. Dan Ford (27) and Eric Soderholm (37) went deep for Minnesota

Hal McRae (.291) had three doubles to lead K.C. to yet another victory. Frank White (40SB) joined teammate Amos Otis (47SB) in the 40 steals club
California 0 at Oakland 4
-Sonny Siebert (13-11, 3.53) with the six hit shutout and Ted Kubiak had three hits and two RBI’s. Both men were acquired last offseason from the Padres for Tito Fuentes.

-Omar Moreno (.299 37SB) had two steals in the Bucs narrow victory over the Cubs
Philadelphia 3 at New York 2
-Mike Schmidt (39) and Greg Luzinski (28) homered and Tug McGraw earned his 26th save as the Phils hand the Mets their 99th loss of the season
Montreal 7 at St. Louis 5
-It’s been a tough second half for All-Star starter Bill Lee (17-14, 3.14) but he gets the win today. Rusty Staub hit his 25th home run for the Expos
Cincinnati 9 at Atlanta 5
-George Foster (33HR) hit three home runs and he along with Johnny Bench drove in three as the Reds hand Buzz Capra his 19th defeat of the season
Houston 4 at San Diego 5
-Randy Jones (19-5, 3.33) will have a chance to win twenty games as he and the Padres break the Astros nine-game winning streak
San Francisco 3 at Los Angeles 4
-Jay Johnstone (12HR) hit a three run home run to help Hank Webb (2-5, 4.16) to victory.

NL East: The Pirates have repeated as division winners
NL West : The Astros have clinched the division
