Randy Jones (18-4, 3.25) and Rollie Fingers (27Sv, 3.20) added to their win and save totals.

Pittsburgh 7 at Cincinnati 3
- Bernie Carbo’s 13th home run of the year was a three-run shot in the 6th to give the Bucs a 4-2 lead and they’d not look back in this opener at Riverfront. Rick Reuschel (14-9, 2.71) went the distance for the win.
Chicago 0  at Houston 7
