Beare Brews up Combined One-Hitter for Milwaukee



American League:
Chicago 1 at Boston 3
-
Steve Dillard had three hits and Bruce Kison (13-11, 3.93) and Skip Lockwood (33Sv, 2.25) shut down Chicago after Jorge Orta’s (11HR) 1st inning home run as the Sox end a mini two-game slide
Minnesota 3 at New York 5
-Rookie Willie Randolph drove in three and Doc Medich (3-0, 2.25) pitched seven innings for the win as the Yankees extend the Twins losing streak to seven games.
Texas 2 at Baltimore 3
-The Rangers aren’t doing the Red Sox any favours as they lose the opener of this four game set in Baltimore after sweeping two from Boston. The Orioles only managed three hits in the win. Wayne Garland (15-5, 2.50) defeated Stan Perzanowski (17-5, 2.80) in a matchup of surprising aces.
Kansas City 7 at Cleveland 1
-The Royals waste little time in securing their eleventh straight win and add to Paul Splittorff’s (25-3, 2.25) incredible win total as they score seven off Phil Niekro (9-14, 3.49) in the first two innings. George Brett, Hal McRae and John Mayberry each drove in two. The Indians actually no hit the Royals in the final seven innings but the game had been long decided.
Oakland 8 at Detroit 10
-Richie Hebner (13) hit two home runs and Dave Collins had three hits and stole his 42nd base as the Tigers drop the defending Al West champion A’s below .500.
California 1 at Milwaukee 2
-Reggie Jackson’s 22nd home run of the year in the 7th was the Angels only hit as Gary Beare (6-11, 3.89), Jerry Augustine (3.33) and Bill Castro (16Sv, 2.00) combine on the one hitter

AL East: The Orioles maintain a 3 game lead on the Red  Sox
AL West:  The Royals lead by 15 games
