Palmer With Clutch Win at Fenway



American League:
Baltimore 2 at Boston 1
-
Jim Palmer (17-12, 3.19) with a clutch complete game victory at Fenway capped off with a strike out of Carl Yastrzemski to end it. The go-ahead run was scored in the 7th on a Bobby Grich sacrifice fly.
Detroit 2 at Cleveland 3
-Paul Reuschel (3-3, 5.24) and Dan Spillner (13Sv, 4.83) lead the Tribe to a narrow victory in a game without an extra base hit
New York 5 at Milwaukee 3
-Ken Griffey (.312) had three hits and Tom Underwood (13-1, 3.49) pitched seven innings for the win. Dick Tidrow racked up his 35th save
California 4 at Chicago 3 (12)
-Bobby Bonds (32HR) hit two home runs for the White Sox but was set down in the 12th to finish the game as the Angels prevail thanks to Reggie Jackson’s 26th home run of the season in extras.
Oakland 1 at Kansas City 4
-After consecutive no decisions Paul Splittorff (26-3, 2.32) adds to his gaudy win total. He also had two hits in the win.
Minnesota 13  at Texas 1
-Lyman Bostock (.278) and Dan Ford (.347 24HR) each had four hits and Eric Soderholm ripped his 32nd home run as the Twins maul Texas. Ford also homered, he will be one of the more sought after free agents in the offseason.


AL East: The Red Sox lead is trimmed back to a half game by the Orioles
AL West:  The Royals lead by 13 games and their magic number to clinch is 4

National League
Chicago 7 at Montreal 2
-Vic Harris drove in three runs and Dennis Ecksersley (11-15, 3.54) went the distance for the Cubs
Atlanta 2 at San Francisco 4
-
Ed Halicki (11-14, 2.96) fanned eight in eight innings as the Giants halt a five game slide

NL East: The Pirates lead by 10 games. Their magic number is 7
NL West: The Astros lead the Reds by 4 games. The teams begin a three-game set in Houston tomorrow.
