Brock Swipes Four; Cards Shutout Phils

National League
Montreal 8 at Chicago 9 (10)
-The Cubs rally from 8-2 down in the 7th thanks to a three run home run by Andre Dawson (8), a bases loaded walk with two outs in the 9th issued to Dave Rosello, and Gene Clines (3) game winning home run in extras .
St. Louis 2 at Philadelphia 0
-
It’s been a miserable year for Larry Dierker (2-12, 4.40) but he had a sparkling return to the mound tonight combining with Greg Terlecky (3Sv, 3.12) on a two hit shutout. Lou Brock (.343 56SB) stole two bases and Bake McBride (.351 29SB) added a pair for the Cards.
New York 2 at Pittsburgh 13
-
Omar Moreno, Rennie Stennett and Tim Foli had three each hits – and Foli  had his 4th home run of the season as the Bucs bomb Pat Zachry (8-3, 3.28) and the Mets.
San Francisco 8 at Atlanta 1
-Glenn Adams (12HR) hit a pair of home runs and drove in three, helping Ed Halicki (10-13, 2.89) to an easy win over the struggling Buzz Capra (9-17, 4.51)
San Diego 4 at Cincinnati 3 (14)
- Triples were the undoing of the Reds. Tito Fuentes lined a triple in the 9th and scored the tying run as Rawly Eastwick blew just his 3rd save opportunity of the season. Fast forward to the 14th inning and Willie Davis raps the eventual game winning RBI triple off Pat Darcy (4-6, 3.73). Not only do the Padres win both games at Riverfront but the length of this game leaves the Reds bullpen tired heading into a pivotal two game series with the Astros. The Padres have won six in a row.
Los Angeles 3 at Houston 1
-Jerry Reuss (16-5, 3.45) and Mike Garman (11Sv, 2.22) shut down the Astros. Dusty Baker went 3-for3 and stole his 14th base for L.A.

NL East: The Pirates maintain their commanding 11 game lead on the Cardinals
NL West: The Astros lead remains 4 games on the Reds

American League:
Boston 6 at New York 4
-
Carl Yastrzemski (12) and Rick Miller (6) homered and Jim Rice had a pair of triples to lead the Red Sox over the Yankees. Bruce Kison (14-11, 3.96) continued to pitch well in the second half of the season and Skip Lockwood registered his 34th save
Cleveland 13 at Baltimore 4
-Oscar Gamble hit his 31st home run of the  year and Toby Harrah and Ray Fosse each had three hits as the Tribe romp Wayne Garland (15-6, 2.68) and the Orioles.
Milwaukee 5 at Detroit 2
-The Brewers end the Tigers seven game winning streak as rookie Gary Beare (7-11, 3.81) earned the win and Bill Castro racked up his 18th save. Danny Thomas hit his 14th home run for the Brew Crew
Chicago 5 at Minnesota 3
-It’s possible that Jerry Koosman (18-6, 2.80) could win twenty games on a last place team – though this win at the Twins will help the White Sox avoid the cellar. Jerry Hairston (.276 10HR) homered and drove in four for Chicago.
Texas 4 at Kansas City 5
-Paul Splittorff fails in his attempt for his 26th win, but K.C. prevails anyway on a Bob Heise single off Jim Kern (4-5, 2.08) in the 9th. Al Hrabosky (2-2, 4.38) pitched two perfect innings for the win
Oakland 3 at California 6
-Reggie Jackson (24), Bobby Jones (10) and Don Baylor (29) all smack home runs and Dave Lemanczyk (9-5, 3.31) pitched seven strong for the win as the Angels hand the A’s their 8th straight defeat.

AL East: The Orioles lead has been trimmed to a half game by the Red Sox
AL West:  The Royals lead by 14.5 games
