- Dave Winfield’s 15th home run of the season broke a tie and gave the Padres a 9-6 lead in the 8th as San Diego outslugs the Giants. Rollie Fingers (4-2, 2.74) earns a win on consecutive evenings and the Padres improve to 6-1 since the All Star Break

- The White Sox rally from 6-0 down to win 7-6 for the second straight day over the Brewers. The rally culminated with Jorge Orta’s game winning single in the 9th off Fred Holdsworth (3-4, 1.74)
Detroit 4 at Minnesota 5
- Larry Hisle’s 24th home run of the season was a three-run home run in the 5th and was enough for the Twins to sweep a mini two game set with the Tigers
New York 2 at Kansas City 3 (10)
- K.C. racks up win number nine in a row in the 10th inning as Frank White’s RBI single off Sparky Lyle (4-6, 2.89) sends Royals Stadium into a frenzy. Marty Pattin (4-4, 3.91) got the win in relief.

-Bob Watson hit his 14th home run of the season in the first inning and the Red Sox never looked back as they end a three game skid. Skip Lockwood earned save #27 for the Sox.

- Oscar Gamble’s 24th home run of the season was a two-run home run in the top of the 10th off A’s newcomer Elias Sosa (3-4, 2.79) as Cleveland ends a ten game slide after blowing a 4-0 first inning lead and 5-4 ninth inning lead
