- Paul Splittorff (23-3, 2.21) continues to dominate and Al Cowens (2) and Frank White (13) each homered and drove in three as the Royals win their season series versus the champs 9-1.
Texas 8 at New York 9
-The Yankees erase an 8-3 deficit with a five run 6th to complete a sweep of the Rangers. Roy White and Ken Griffey each hit their 11th home runs of the season and Thurman Munson went 4-for-4
Oakland 3 at Baltimore 7
-The Orioles put up a five run 8th off inning off Dave Hamilton (7-6, 3.88) and Fernando Arroyo to win their weekend set with the A’s. Bobby Grich hit his 16th home run of the season and Ken Singleton had two hits including the game-winning RBI to raise his MLB best batting average to .369
California 4 at Cleveland 2
- The Indians only allow two hits but one of them was a three-run home run by Ron Jackson (11) which was enough to make a winner of Frank Tanana (15-8, 3.45). The teams split their four game series.
Chicago 6 at Detroit 5
-Jim Spencer hit his 12th home run of the season and Pablo Torrealba pitched two shutout innings for his 8th save as the Sox avoid the sweep at Tiger Stadium. Larry Herndon went 4-for-4 with his 8th home run of the year in a losing cause.
Minnesota 5 at Milwaukee 4
-Pete Mackinin atoned for his two errors as his triple keyed a three run Minnesota rally in the 9th off Bill Castro (4-4, 2.02) as the Twins even this rare five-game series.

Pete Rose had three hits and three RBI’s including his 7th home run to raise his average to .350.
Atlanta 3 at Pittsburgh 0
-The Pirates have been scoring more than six runs a game in August but can’t muster a run off Buzz Capra today (9-14, 4.01) as they strand eleven and fail in their attempt to sweep.
Houston 2 at St. Louis 7
-Lou Brock stole his 48th base and had three hits including a double that keyed a four-run Cardinal 7th as the Redbirds take two of three from the Astros. Lynn McGlothen improves to 8-4, 2.72 combined with the Giants and the Cards.
Philadelphia 6 at Los Angeles 1
-Tim McCarver (3) hit a htree run home run and Tony Perez also drove in three as Larry Christenson improves to 13-9, 3.67
Montreal 5 at San Diego 6
-The Expos take a 5-3 lead into the 9th but do not record an out as the Padres prevail on a Doug Rader RBI single. The Expos have now dropped eight in a row.
New York 7 at San Francisco 6
-Dave Kingman (18HR) hit two home runs and Felix Millan’s sacrifice fly in the 9th gives the Mets their seventh win in eight games. Bob Apodaca (4-5, 2.58) pitched two shutout innings of relief for the win

NL West: The Astros lead has been cut down to 2 by the Reds. The Padres are 7 games back.
