Seaver Silences San Fran at Shea



American League:
New York 5 at Chicago 2
-
George Scott (19HR) smacked a pair of home runs and Dick Tidrow registered save #31 for the Yankees
Boston 3 at Minnesota 2
-Jerry Remy squeeze bunted Rick Burleson home with what proved to be the winning run in the 6th as the Red Sox nip the Twins at the Met. Skip Lockwood remains tied with Dick Tidrow for the AL saves lead as he also records his 31st today.
Baltimore 4 at Kansas City 5
-The Orioles rap fourteen base hits off Paul Splittorff (24-3, 2.30) in seven innings but he still manages to prevail once again. The Orioles left fourteen men on base and hit into two double plays
Cleveland 3 at Texas 4
-Johnny Grubb (12HR) hit a two run home run in the 7th to vault the Rangers to a lead they’d not relinquish. Jackie Brown improves to 9-11, 4.31 with the win and Leon Roberts ups his average to .326 with a three hit night. The Indians Toby Harrah led off the game with his 20th home run.
Detroit 4 at California 9
-Don Baylor (28) hit a three run home run and Dave Chalk (6) a grand slam in an eight run Angels 1st off Glenn Abbott (2-3, 4.76). Frank Tanana (16-8, 3.35) struck out seven and walked none in the complete game win.
Milwaukee 5 at Oakland 8
-Cliff Johnson’s 21st home run of the season was a grand slam that gave the A’s a 7-2 lead in the 4th inning. Don Sutton (16-6, 2.90) earned the win for the A’s.
AL East: The Orioles lead is reduced to 3 by the Red Sox
AL West:  The Royals maintain their commanding lead of 11 over the Angels
