-Tom Seaver (11-7, 3.06) tosses a masterful three-hit, no walk shutout. Rookie Bruce Boisclair (.299 21SB) scored two runs and stole two bases for the Mets.

-Johnny Oates (4HR) Hit a first inning grand slam off Burt Hooton (9-14, 3.77) and Larry Christenson (14-9, 3.55) helped himself with his 2^nd home run of the year for the Phils. Rough night on the East Coast for the California teams in the NL who get outscored a combined 26-3.

-Bert Blyleven (12-5, 3.13) pitches seven innings for the win and Willie Stargell (26), Gene Tenace (18) and Bernie Carbo (11) all went deep for the first place Bucs

-Bobby Murcer (21HR) hit a three-run home run in the 1^st and Bruce Sutter (17Sv, 3.07) struck out five in three perfect innings of relief as the Cubs end an eight game slide.
St. Louis 2 at Houston 6
-Mike Ivie (30HR) and Alan Ashby (6) homer off Lynn McGlothen (8-5, 2.98) as the Astros win easily at the Dome. Mike Cosgrove (1-3, 4.09) pitched eight innings in a spot start for Houston..

-George Scott (19HR) smacked a pair of home runs and Dick Tidrow registered save #31 for the Yankees
Boston 3 at Minnesota 2
-Jerry Remy squeeze bunted Rick Burleson home with what proved to be the winning run in the 6^th as the Red Sox nip the Twins at the Met. Skip Lockwood remains tied with Dick Tidrow for the AL saves lead as he also records his 31^st today.
Baltimore 4 at Kansas City 5
-The Orioles rap fourteen base hits off Paul Splittorff (24-3, 2.30) in seven innings but he still manages to prevail once again. The Orioles left fourteen men on base and hit into two double plays
Cleveland 3 at Texas 4
-Johnny Grubb (12HR) hit a two run home run in the 7^th to vault the Rangers to a lead they’d not relinquish. Jackie Brown improves to 9-11, 4.31 with the win and Leon Roberts ups his average to .326 with a three hit night. The Indians Toby Harrah led off the game with his 20^th home run.
Detroit 4 at California 9
-Don Baylor (28) hit a three run home run and Dave Chalk (6) a grand slam in an eight run Angels 1^st off Glenn Abbott (2-3, 4.76). Frank Tanana (16-8, 3.35) struck out seven and walked none in the complete game win.
Milwaukee 5 at Oakland 8
-Cliff Johnson’s 21^st home run of the season was a grand slam that gave the A’s a 7-2 lead in the 4^th inning. Don Sutton (16-6, 2.90) earned the win for the A’s.

AL East: The Orioles lead is reduced to 3 by the Red Sox
AL West:  The Royals maintain their commanding lead of 11 over the Angels
