Palmer Goes Distance as O's Win Big Series with BoSox

American League:
Boston 1 at Baltimore 3
- Bobby Grich hit his 14th home run of the season in the 1st to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead and Jim Palmer (14-9, 3.10) would make that stand with an eight strikeout complete game victory
New York 3 at Detroit 1
-Luis Tiant (12-6, 2.56) and Dick Tidrow (28Sv, 1.79) hold the Tigers to six hits as the Yankees battle back to split their four games in Motown
Cleveland 3 at Milwaukee 8
-Robin Yount hit his 8th home run and Bill Travers (3-10, 4.72) got a much needed victory for his confidence as the Brewers avoid the sweep
Kansas City 7 at Minnesota 6
-George Brett had four hits as the Royals rally from 5-0 down to complete a four game sweep at the Met. Lindy McDaniel (4-5, 3.30) pitched 3.2 innings of relief to earn the win and he drove in the winning run in a four-run Royal 6th

AL East: The Orioles extend their lead to 3 with their series win over the 2nd place Red Sox
AL West:  The Royals now boast a 9.5 game bulge over the idle Angels

National League
Chicago 5 at St. Louis 8
-Lou Brock (.338 44SB) had four hits and three stolen bases as the Cardinals avoid the sweep – and avoid seeing the Cubs overtake them for 2nd place in the NL East.
Atlanta 1  at Cincinnati 2
-Bill Bonham (13-8, 3.14) and Rawly Eastwick (34Sv, 2.13) do not allow an earned run as Larry Biittner’s two-run 1st inning double holds up for Cincinnati who sweep the sinking Braves
San Francisco 2 at Los Angeles 1
-Ed Halicki (8-12, 2.80) and Gary Lavelle (7Sv, 3.55) combine on a four hitter as the Giants salvage one in Chavez Ravine.

NL East: The idle Pirates still lead the Cardinals by 9 games
NL West: The Astros watch as the Reds trim their lead to 4
