Dillard Drives in Seven as BoSox Bomb Brewers

American League:
Milwaukee 6  at Boston 17
- The Red Sox score in every inning as rookie Steve Dillard drives in seven runs and Jim Rice takes over the AL home run lead with his 31st and 32nd home runs of the season as the BoSox bomb the Brewers. The Red Sox may have wanted to save some runs for their showdown with 1st place Baltimore where they head next
California 7 at Chicago 5
-Fred Lynn scored four runs and Reggie Jackson went 4-for-4 and each homered as the Angels end a six game slide. Angels starter Wayne Simpson allowed 13 hits in 4.2 innings but the five runs the White Sox scored against him would not hold up
Kansas City 10 at Minnesota 0
-The Royals score eight runs in 2.1 innings off Vic Albury (5-7, 4.56) and Steve Busby (11-6, 3.58) strikes out nine in a four-hitter as the Royals win easily at the Met. Amos Otis had three RBI’s and two stolen bases to raise his SB total to 30
Oakland 6 at Texas 4
-The Rangers had a chance to tie the A’s for 3rd place in the West but Mike Norris (6-7, 3.58) helps his cause with two RBI’s as Oakland prevails. Richie Zisk (21HR) hit two home runs in a losing cause for the Rangers
AL East: The Orioles lead over the Red Sox is trimmed to 2 games. The teams play the next three days in Baltimore
AL West:  The Royals lead remains 7 games over the Angels

National League
Montreal 7 at New York 10
-Every Met position player had a hit and factored in a run as the team has now won three in a row. Steve Rogers (6-11, 4.10) didn’t survive the 3rd inning for the Expos
Philadelphia 8 at Pittsburgh 10
-Rookie Omar Moreno (.292 7HR) continues to thrive in a starting role since the trade of Al Oliver. Moreno had three hits, three runs a home run and his 15th stolen base as the Bucs prolific offence continues to thump NL East pitching this month.
San Diego 2 at Houston 6
-Joe Niekro (9-3, 3.01) did not allow a hit after Dave Winfield’s 16th home run of the season in the 1st and recent acquisition Ed Herrmann drove in three runs as the Astros hand the Padres their 5th straight loss.

NL East: The Pirates extend their lead to 7.5 on the idle Cardinals
NL West: The Astros extend their lead to 5.5 on the idle Reds
