-Leo Cardenas’s tiebreaking single in the 9th leads the Rangers to their fourth straight victory. Mickey Rivers stole two bases and leads the AL with 48.
California 5 at Minnesota 6
-Glenn Borgmann’s fourth RBI of the game drove in Larry Hisle with the winning run in the 8th as the Twins hand the Angels their fourth straight defeat. Both Borgmann (4HR) and Hisle (25) homered in the game as well
Oakland 2 at Kansas City 3
-Paul Splittorff (21-3, 2.36) raises his MLB best win total despite being lifted for a pinch hitter in the 6th. The A’s nearly tied it in the 9th but Al Hrabosky (4Sv, 4.61) got Ted Kubiak to ground out with men on 2nd & 3rd to end it

-The Padres nearly survive a nine run Atlanta 2nd inning but succumb in extras on a Charlie Spikes double off Rollie Fingers (4-3, 2.63). The Padres rallied from 9-4 down in the 2nd and 12-10 down in the 9th as Mike Phillips and Steve Swisher had three RBI’s in a losing cause. Spikes knocked in four for Atlanta
Los Angeles 7 at Cincinnati 4
-Bill Buckner (5), Rick Monday (16) and Lee Lacy (9) all homered off Gary Nolan (11-10, 3.80) to chase him from the game in the 4th as the Dodgers deliver the Reds their 4th straight defeat. Andy Messersmith (14-6, 2.92) won again for L.A. who have reached the .500 mark for the first time since May 7th
