-Tony Scott went 5-for-5 to up his average to .367 in a reserve role and rookie Bob Knepper improved to a dazzling 5-1, 2.52 as the 1st place Astros have an easy time with last place Detroit.

-Joe Morgan’s 13th home run of the season broke up a scoreless deadlock in the 8th as the Reds would eventually double up the Brew Crew. Jack Billingham (9-8, 3.95) earned the win and Rawly Eastwick racked up save number 29

-Andy Messersmith (12-5, 2.91) gets the easy win thanks to home runs by Rick Monday (10), Phil Garner (5) and Rick Dempsey (3). This just in the Twins pitching staff is horrendous

-The AL wins one here as Leo Cardenas rapped a go-ahead double in the 6th and Tommy Boggs (9-6, 2.87) and Jim Kern (17Sv, 1.66) earned the decisions for the Rangers

-Frank Tanana (12-7, 2.95) struck out nine in eight innings as he combines on a three-hitter with Jim Brewer (2Sv, 6.28). Don Baylor (17th) homered for the Angels while Al Oliver’s (13) solo shot accounted for Pittsburgh’s scoring
