-A seven run San Diego explosion in the 9th saves them from a crippling sweep at Comiskey. Steve Garvey’s 11th home run of the season was a three-run final blow in the outburst.

-Rawly Eastwick earned his MLB best 28th save and Cesar Geronimo drives in three on consecutive days as the Reds outscore the pitching poor Twins. Eric Soderholm and Larry Hisle each reached 20 home runs in a losing cause – Hisle going deep twice to reach the mark.

-George Brett had two triples and three hits overall and Buck Martinez drove in three as Dennis Leonard (13-5, 2.99) and the Royals win easily

-Luis Melendez and Mario Guerrero each drove in two and Bob Forsch improved to 11-4, 3.58 in the Cardinals win. Mark Littell picked up his 18th save with 1.1 perfect innings.

-Dan Driessen’s RBI single in the 9th off a struggling Mickey Scott (2-6, 4.78) was the game winning RBI as the Expos slow down the Angels with consecutive wins in Anaheim
Pittsburgh 2 at Oakland 0
- Jim Rooker (8-6, 4.67) pitches his second shutout of the month, this a a four hitter as the Pirates win two of three from the A’s in a battle of 1975 LCS losers.
AL East: The Red Sox lead is trimmed to 1 by the Orioles with the Indians (6) and Yankees (6.5) still in the hunt
AL West: The Royals extend their lead to 1.5 on the Angels and 4.5 on the A’s.
