Rasmussen Outduels Jenkins as Cards Nip BoSox



Interleague Play
St. Louis 2 at Boston 1
-Reggie Smith hammered home run number 23 and Eric Rasmussen (9-7, 2.98) outpitched Fergie Jenkins (11-4, 3.66) as each went the distance
Atlanta 9 at Cleveland 3
-Marty Perez and Chris Chambliss each had four hits as Perez scored four times and Chambliss drove in three. John Montefusco (8-10, 4.02) won easily for the Braves.
Philadelphia 1 at Chicago 3
-The White Sox sweep the Phils as Roy Smalley hit just his 2nd home run of the year and Don Kirkwood (3-3, 4.48) earned the victory
New York 1 at Kansas City 7
-The 1st place Royals cruise to an easy sweep of the lowly Mets as Steve Bubsy (9-6, 3.83) pitched a complete game and Frank White had three hits

AL East:
The Red Sox lead is down to 1 over the idle Orioles
AL West: The Royals extend their lead to 2.5 on the Angels and 6.5 on the A’s
NL East:
The idle Pirates are 3 up on the Cardinals and 6 up on the floundering Phillies
NL West:  The Astros lead the Reds by 3 and the Padres by 6.5
ALvsNL: The leagues split the 72 games in AL parks 36-36 with the remaining games to be played in NL parks. The league with the best record in the 144 interleague games earns home-field advantage in the World Series
