-The Orioles only muster four hits but one of them was a three-run shot by Bobby Grich, his 8th of the year in the 4th inning off Paul Hartzell (5-5, 3.29). Jim Palmer (10-8, 3.03) struck out seven in seven innings for the win.
Detroit 5 at Kansas City 2
-Bill Madlock raises his average to .333 as he hits a triple and his 17th home run as the last place Tigers knock off the Royals. Rookie Mark Fidrych (4-6, 3.33) and a team of three relivers three-hit the Royals.
Milwaukee 2 at Texas 5
-It’s been a struggle for Ranger offseason acquisition Richie Zisk, he’s hitting only .229 but had two hits including his 14th home run in tonight’s victory. Stan Thomas (2Sv, 1.83) continues to be a find for the Rangers off the waiver wire – he earned the save.
New York 2 at California 4
-Dave Lemanczyk (5-2, 3.28) is emerging into a reliable 4th starter for the Angels as he was helped by home runs by Dave Chalk (3) and Jason Thompson (15) tonight. Opening day starter Wayne Simpson, demoted to the pen in May, earned his 4th save tonight – his ERA is still a gaudy 4.88

-The Red Sox are 3-0 on a four game mini-trek through the Golden State. Jim Rice (25) and Dwight Evans (14) hit back to back home runs in the 5th to make a winner of Fergie Jenkins (9-3, 3.69). Skip Lockwood earned his 19th save for the Sox
AL East: Boston and Baltimore remain tied while the Yankees (2.5) and Indians (5) lost a game
AL West: The Angels pick up a game on the Royals (1.5) and A’s (2)

Houston 4 at Montreal 1
-Mark Lemongello is making a case for Cy Young not just Rookie of the Year as he improves to 12-4, 2.33 with eight strong innings. Wilbur Howard had three hits for the Astros
Cincinnati 6 at New York 2
-Joe Morgan swiped a pair of bases to up his MLB best steal total to 40 and Johnny Bench ripped his 24th home run of the season as the Reds have won four in a row. Gary Nolan (8-6, 3.10) went the distance for Cincinnati.
Atlanta 3 at Philadelphia 4 (11)
-The Phils stay hot thanks to their stout bullpen. Tom Hilgendorf (2.29), Gene Garber (3.32) and Tug McGraw (3-3, 1.89) shut the Braves out in the final four innings enabling the Phils to win on Mike Schmidt’s 11th inning triple. The Braves have lost 10 of 11 for the second time this season.
St. Louis 8 at Los Angeles 7 (10)
-Lou Brock had four hits and scored the winning run in extras as the Cardinals rally from 7-3 down to beat L.A. Derold Knowles (1-0, 3.59) and Lerrin LaGrow (5Sv, 3.49) earned the decisions for St. Louis.

-The Padres pound out 15 hits but strand 13 runners as they’ve now lost two in a row following an eight game win streak. Larry Gura (5-5, 4.46) earned the win and Ramon Hernandez his 4th save for Chicago.
Pittsburgh 3 at San Francisco 1
-Willie Stargell is having a down season compared to ’75 but his 15th home run of the season paces the Pirates to victory tonight. Bert Blyleven didn’t allow a run in 6.1 innings and improves to 9-3, 3.09.
