Minnesota 6 at Baltimore 4
-The Twins continue to be much better away from home as they help out the Red Sox and Yankees by downing the O’s in Baltimore. Rod Carew hit his 2nd home run of the season and Paul Hartzell improved to 5-4, 3.28
Chicago 2 at Cleveland 8
-Oscar Gamble (14HR) hit a grand slam and drove in six as Gaylord Perry (8-6, 3.82) and the Tribe win handily over the ChiSox
Kansas City 4 at Detroit 2
-The Royals end a five game slide as Paul Splittorff (15-2, 2.19) carries a shutout into the 9th and wins again. Bill Madlock (15) hit a three run home run to give the Royals a scare but Marty Pattin would come on to earn his 12th save. Hal McRae had two doubles to raise his average to .301. He was hitting below .200 in late May
Texas 6 at Milwaukee 9
-A couple of hot teams slug it out at County Stadium as Danny Thomas (5) hits a grand slam as the Brewers take an early 6-0 lead. The Rangers would rally to tie it but Cecil Cooper’s RBI single in the 7th regained the lead for the Brewers and they’d go on to win for the sixth time in seven games
National League
Atlanta 1 at Montreal 5
-Steve Rogers (4-7, 3.59) tossed a complete game as the Expos send the Braves to their sixth straight defeat
Houston 8 at New York 3
-Mike Ivie hammered his 22nd home run of the season and phenom Mark Lemongello improves to 11-4, 2.40 as the Astros remain tied atop the NL West
Cincinnati 1 at Philadelphia 3
-Nino Espinosa (3-1, 2.36) and Tug McGraw (14Sv, 2.00) shut down the Machine and Larry Bowa drives in two runs as the Phillies cut the Pirates lead in the East to 3.5 games
Pittsburgh 1 at Los Angeles 5
-Jerry Reuss (6-5, 3.65) pitches a complete game and Jay Johnstone had three hits as L.A. wins easily over the East leaders
St. Louis 5 at San Diego 8
-The Padres jump on rookie Joaquin Andujar (4-6, 4.33) for seven runs in the 1st inning to win their fourth straight and remain in a tie for 1st with the Astros
Chicago 0 at San Francisco 2
-Vida Blue (5-7, 3.78) strikes out eight and walks none as he outduels Geoff Zahn (7-6, 4.45) in a matchup of southpaws at Candlestick.
