Eastwick With Win, Save as Reds Sweep 'Spos

National League
Los Angeles 6 at Chicago 1 (12 innings - game 1)
- The last thing the Cubs pitching staff needed was extra innings and it caught up them in the 12th as Jay Johnstone’s 8th home run helped blow the game open for L.A. Elias Sosa (3-2, 1.99) pitched two shutout innings for the win.
Los Angeles 7 at Chicago 2 (game 2)
-Ray Burris (5-5, 4.19) pitched eight innings despite allowing four home runs and seven runs as the Cubs bullpen is so fatigued. Lee Lacy (6th), former Cub Bill Buckner (3), Rick Monday (9) and Phil Garner (4) were the home run hitters for the Dodgers who’ve won four straight.
San Diego 2 at Pittsburgh 11 (game 1)
-
Bert Blyleven (10-3, 3.07) cruised to an easy in as the Pirates batter around Alan Foster (8-8, 2.83) and a trio of Padre relievers. Willie Stargell hammered his 16th home run for Pittsburgh
San Diego 2 at Pittsburgh 1 (game 2)
-
For the second time in three days the Padres get routed in Game 1 of a doubleheader and earn a split in a nip and tuck nightcap. Recently acquired Steve Swisher had the game wining RBI and Rollie Fingers fanned the final two men he faced for his 21st save
San Francisco 2 at St. Louis 3 (12)
-A thrilling victory for the Cardinals as they win on Jim Dwyer’s bases loaded bunt in the bottom of the 12th. Reggie Smith -  traded from the Giants earlier this season – had the other two RBI’s in the game for St. Louis.
Montreal 2 at Cincinnati 3 (12 innings – game 1)
-A third 12 inning game in the NL today as Joe Morgan’s RBI double off Chip Lang (1-4, 3.64) wins it for the Reds. Clay Carroll (2.96) and Rawly Eastwick (1-2, 2.18) pitched 4.1 perfect innings of relief for the Reds.
Montreal 5 at Cincinnati 7
-Larry Lintz led off the game with his first home run for the Expos but the Reds would answer with three in the bottom half and not look back. Rawly Eastwick followed up his win in the opener with his 27th save in the nightcap. It’s the second time in a week the Reds have swept a doubleheader from the Expos.
Philadelphia 2 at Houston 3
-Sixto Lezcano (11) and Mike Schmidt (23) hit solo home runs but it wasn’t enough for the Phillies as rookie Mark Lemongello (13-4, 2.32) and closer Ken Forsch (21Sv, 2.74) pitch the Astros to victory.

NL East: With the split the Pirates now lead the  Phillies by 4 and the streaking Cardinals by 5 games
NL West:
The Astros lead the now 2nd place Reds by 1.5 games while the Padres lose a half game and are 2.5 back.

American League
Minnesota 8 at Boston 11
-Typical Twins as they score three in the top of the 1st and give up seven in the bottom half – including a grand slam by Red Sox Pitcher Fergie Jenkins (10-3, 3.87). Steve Braun hit his 2nd and 3rd home runs of the season in a losing cause for Minnesota.
Chicago 3 at New York 6
-Lenny Randle had four hits and Don Gullett (10-4, 3.71) earned the victory as the Yankees salvage a game in this four game set with the White Sox. Dick Tidrow nailed it down for his 21st save.
Kansas City 3 at Baltimore 5 (10)
-Ken Singleton’s 14th home run of the season was the game winner off Bruce DalCanton (6-2, 2.86) to earn a split of this tightly contested four game set for the Orioles. Singleton’s batting average is also tops in the AL at .369.
Texas 9 at Cleveland 11
-Oscar Gamble didn’t start the game for the Indians – but boy did he finish it. His grand slam capped a six-run late inning rally by the Tribe as they stun the Rangers at Municipal Stadium. It was Gamble’s 18th home run of the season.
California 3 at Detroit 8
-The Tigers earn a split of their four game set with the AL West leaders as newcomer Richie Hebner drives in three runs and Vern Ruhle improved to 4-8, 3.82). The Angels only had three hits in the defeat.
Oakland 2  at Milwaukee 3
-It was crazy eights for the suddenly stingy Brewers staff as Mike Caldwell evened his mark at 8-8, 2.86 and Bill Castro improved his numbers to 8 saves and an 1.88 ERA. The Brewers won three of four from the fading A’s.

AL East: All winners. The Red Sox lead the Orioles by 1, the Yankees by 4.5 and the Indians by 6.
AL West: All losers: The Angels lead the Royals by 1.5 games and the A’s by 3
