-Milt Wilcox (5-6, 3.61) and John Hiller (6Sv, 2.56) combine on a four-hitter as the Tigers win just their 8th home game of the season
California 9 at Kansas City 3
-Not even 13 win Paul Splittorff can slow down the Angels who’ve won seven in a row and move ahead of K.C. into 2nd place in the AL West.. Fred Lynn drove in three runs and Reggie Jackson (10) and Don Baylor (11) hit home runs for the Halos. Frank Tanana (10-5, 2.45) went the distance for the convincing win
Minnesota 9 at Texas 3
-Dan Ford (.328 13HR) hit two home runs and drove in six runs as the Twins roll in Arlington
Chicago 4 at Oakland 8
-Willie Horton (.258 11HR) hits two home runs to lead the A’s to an easy win over the last place White Sox. Oakland maintains a half game lead on California in the West with the win
National League
St. Louis 9 at Chicago 6
-Goose Gossage (3-4, 5.87) misery continues as he takes the loss as the Cubs blow a 6-2 lead to the Cards at Wrigley. Reggie Smith (16) and Steve Swisher (2) went deep for St. Louis
Philadelphia 3 at Montreal 4
-The Phillies were 20-2 versus left-handed starters heading in but Bill Lee (7-6, 2.49) doesn’t allow an earned run in six innings and a trio of relievers close the win out for Montreal.
Atlanta 7 at Cincinnati 4
-The Braves take three of four at Riverfront and are closing in on the 3rd place Reds in the West. Pat Darcy’s (2-3, 4.18) return to the rotation may be short lived for Cincinnati
San Diego 0 at San Francisco 3
-Fans in Houston are thanking the Giants as this result puts the Astros in sole possession of 1st place. Lynn McGlothen (5-2, 2.19) with the three-hit shutout for San Francisco.
