-Home runs by Mike Schmidt (20), Tony Perez (7), and Greg Luzinski (15) power the Phillies to the win at Olympic Stadium
Chicago 2 at New York 1
-Larry Gura (4-5, 4.98) and Bruce Sutter (7Sv, 2.72) limit the Mets to a run as solo home runs by Bobby Murcer (9) and Andre Dawson (6) were all the Cubs needed
Pittsburgh 2 at St. Louis 4
-The Cardinals take two of three from the Pirates as Bob Gibson improves to 8-3, 3.40 and Mark Littell (15Sv, 2.18) recorded the final five outs for the save
Atlanta 6 at Cincinnati 2
-Bill Bonham’s (7-6, 4.42) struggles continue as three RBI’s by Biff Pocoroba lead the Braves to victory at Riverfront. Adrian Devine (1-0, 3.18) with his first major league win for Atlanta.
San Diego 4 at Houston 7
-And we have a tie for 1st place in the NL West as J.R. Richard (5-6, 5.49) earns a much needed victory and Jerry DaVanon drives in four runs for Houston.
San Francisco 1 at Los Angeles 5
-
Andy Messersmith (9-4, 3.10) strikes out ten and Dusty Baker (8) and Ron Cey (10) hit home runs for the Dodgers who complete the sweep of the last place Giants.

American League
Baltimore 3 at Boston 5
-Jim Rice (.309 21HR) homers in all four games in this series and it’s finally in a winning effort. Rick Wise (6-6, 3.17) earned the win and Skip Lockwood (14Sv, 2.83) notched the save
Detroit 3 at New York 5
-Graig Nettles (.259 13HR) caps off a monster 17RBI week with a pair of home runs and four RBI’s as the Yankees sweep the Tigers. Dick Tidrow (17Sv, 1.66) saved all three games for New York
Milwaukee 0 at Cleveland 1
-Four Indian hurlers combine on a two-hitter as the Indians take two of three from the Brewers
Minnesota 10 at Chicago 7 (10)
-The Twins score three in the 9th and four in the 10th to stay ahead of Chicago at the bottom of the AL West
Kansas City 8 at Texas 1
-Hal McRae (.270 5HR) homered and drove in four runs and Dennis Leonard (9-5, 3.27) struck out eleven as the Royals salvage a game in Arlington to move into a tie for 1st place in the tight AL West.
California 6 at Oakland 4
-The Angels are just a half game out in the AL West as they overcome an early 3-0 deficit to complete the sweep at the Oakland Coliseum. The Angels are 34-11 since a 8-15 start
