-The Cubs have won two straight after returning home from an 0-6 trip as Ray Burris (3-2, 3.48) wins and Bruce Sutter (3Sv, 2.97) earned the save
Pittsburgh 12 at Montreal 6
-The Pirates roll over the Expos for the third time in two days and now lead by four games In the East. Bernie Carbo (.252 4HR) and Willie Stargell (.247 9HR) each had four hits, four RBI’s and a home run
New York 9 at St. Louis 14
-Reggie Smith (.254 13HR) had two home runs and four hits, runs and RBI’s as the Cards outslug  Craig Swan (2-7, 3.36) and the Mets
Cincinnati 1 at Los Angeles 4
-Doug Rau (4-8, 3.16) and Elias Sosa (10Sv, 1.80) shut down the Machine as L.A’s wins their third straight
Atlanta 4 at San Diego 10
-Al Bumbry (.309 5HR) and Dave Winfield (.254 8HR) each went deep off Buzz Capra (7-6, 3.67) as the 1st place Padres crush the Braves
Houston 5 at San Francisco 2
-Mike Ivie (.302) 16HR is an RBI machine and his three run home run in the 8th off Gary Lavelle (1-4, 3.10) lifted the Astros to the win. Cesar Cedeno (.306 5HR) followed Ivie to make it back to back home runs to provide insurance

 

American League
New York 5 at Cleveland 3
-All the runs were scored in the 8th inning as winner Ed Figueroa (3-7, 4.41) and the Indians Dan Spillner (0-7, 3.41) were finally figured out. Consecutive triples by Thurman Munson (.200) and Ed Brinkman (.257) got things going in the Yankees half.
Boston 6 at Detroit 4
-Fergie Jenkins (5-3, 4.32) wins in his return to the rotation and Skip Lockwood (3.38) saved his tenth as Boston keeps pace with Baltimore in the East
Baltimore 3 at Milwaukee 1
-The Orioles continue to thrive against the division also-rans as Jim Palmer improves to 6-6, 2.99 and Tommy Harper (.298 16SB) had three hits and two steals
Texas 3 at Chicago 2
-Leon Roberts (.326) hit his fourth home run of the season and Jim Kern (10SV, 1.09) continued to dominate in the Rangers pen
Minnesota 1 at California 7
-
Dave Goltz is a perfect 10-0, 2.01 with this complete game victory. Merv Rettenmund (.232) went 3 for 3 for the Angels as the Twins are 0-5 on their west coast trip
Kansas City 12 at Oakland 1
-The Royals are back in first place as Paul Splittorff is now a staggering 12-0, 1.59 and Hal McRae (.250) continued to rebound from a bad start with four RBI’s. It’s lining up for 12-0 Splittorff to face 10-0 Goltz in Anaheim on the weekend.
