Lynn and John Lead Angels Past Hapless Twins

New York 5 at Cleveland 2
-Lou Piniella (.277) lashed a bases loaded, bases clearing double in the 9th off Harry Parker (3-3, 3.68) as the Yankees down the Tribe. Dale Murray (1-3, 3.86) earned the win in relief for New York.
Boston 6 at Detroit 9
-1975 AL Cy Young Bruce Kison (6-5, 4.98) continues to struggle as home runs by Bill Madlock (.362 12HR) and Dave Collins (.345 5HR) help Detroit overcome an early 5-1 deficit.
Texas 10 at Chicago 3
-
Rookie Lee Mazzilli (.279 5HR) homered and drove in five as the Rangers pound out 15 hits in the romp. Recently acquired Chicago starter Blue Moon Odom (1-3, 6.47) may not last too long in his new home.
Minnesota 0 at California 4
-Rookie Tommy John (6-5, 3.10) tosses a six-hit shutout an Fred Lynn (.333 12HR) supplied all the offence with a home run, two doubles and four RBI’s as the Angels hand the last place Twins their fourth  loss in a row

National League
Philadelphia 4 at Chicago 13
-Steve Ontiveros (.361 5HR) hit two home runs and drove in five and Bobby Murcer (.232 6HR) smacked a grand slam as the Cubs romp rookie Don Larson (0-1, 9.00) and the Phils at Wrigley
Pittsburgh 6 at Montreal 3 (game 1)
-The Pirates jump all over Clay Kirby (1-1, 6.35) as they build an early 6-0 lead to help Jim Rooker (5-3, 5.57) to victory.
Pittsburgh 5 at Montreal 1 (game 2)
-Pittsburgh has an easy time in their doubleheader sweep of Montreal. Al Oliver (.291) had three RBI’s and Bernie Carbo (.228) hit his 3rd home run of the year for the Pirates. Rookie Eddie Soloman (2-0, 2.22) got the win and Kent Tekulve (13SV, 2.37) earned the save in both ends today as the Pirates gain 1.5 games on the Phillies to double their lead in the East to 3 games.
Atlanta 9 at San Diego 6
-Darrell Evans (.238 9HR) hit a pair of home runs and Charlie Spikes (.304) drove in three as the Braves end a six game slide
Houston 1 at San Francisco 3
-The last place Giants are suddenly on a roll as Vida Blue (4-5, 4.04) pitches them to their fourth straight win. The Astros have lost three in a row.
