May Drives In All Seven For Struggling Braves in Houston

National League
New York 2 at Chicago 5
-Steve Ontiveros (.340) drove in three and Dennis Eckersley (6-4, 2.58) got the victory as the Cubs avoid the sweep.
Montreal 5 at Philadelphia 2
-The Expos get to the stout Phillies bullpen as they score three in the 9th off Gene Garber (4-2, 3.90 )to trip up the Phils. Larry Lintz (.245 6SB) had three steals and two RBI’s for Montreal
St. Louis 1 at Pittsburgh 2 (11)
-Three straight one-run losses at Three Rivers have dropped the Cardinals to seven behind the Pirates in the NL East. Light hitting Mario Mendoza (.127) hit a game-winning double off Greg Terlecky (2-4, 3.33) to make a winner of Kent Tekulve (3-3, 2.04)
Atlanta 7 at Houston 2
-Dave May (.287 10HR) went 5 for 5 with three home runs and drove in all seven runs as the Braves rip rookie phenom Mark Lemongello (9-3, 1.97) at the Astrodome. The Braves had lost ten of eleven heading in.
San Diego 0 at Los Angeles 5
-Rookie Don Stanhouse (2-3, 3.53) pitches a three-hit shutout as the Dodgers complete a successful homestand winning series against the top three teams in the division – the Astros, Reds and now the Padres
Cincinnati 7 at San Francisco 2
-Dave Concepcion (.276 10SB) had a pair of doubles, three RBI’s and a stolen base as Fred Norman (5-7, 4.08) and the Reds move to three games behind the Padres

American League
Boston 5 at Cleveland 4
-Jim Rice (.306) and Bob Watson (.262) hit RBI singles in the 9th to break a 3-3 tie and Dick Pole (2Sv, 6.89) managed to hold off an Indians rally in the bottom half as the Sox escape Cleveland with a victory
Baltimore 7 at Detroit 2
-The Orioles are now 10-1 versus the Tigers as Jim Palmer (7-6, 2.91) allows ten hits but still goes the distance for Baltimore. Tommy Harper (.292 19HR) had three hits and a stolen base for the Orioles.
New York 5 at Milwaukee 6 (11)
-Johnny Briggs (.294) RBI single in the 11th gave the Brewers a series win over the Yankees who had rallied from 5-2 in the 9th to tie it.
Chicago 11 at Minnesota 8
-Jim Spencer (.273 8HR) bookended the game with a three-run home run in the 1st and a grand slam in the 9th as the White Sox avoid the sweep. His seven RBI’s end the Sox seven game losing streak
Oakland 4 at Texas 6
-Jim Umbarger’s (8.01) return to the A’s rotation may be a short stay as he cannot seem to find his 1975 groove. He’d leave with the game tied at four and the Rangers would score the winning run on Leon Roberts (.326 6HR) home run off Fernando Arroyo (3-1, 1.64) in the 6th
Kansas City 5 at California 3
-The Angels beat undefeated Paul Splittorff on yesterday and the Royals return the favour today as they hand Dave Goltz (10-1, 2.38) his first defeat. Jose Cardenal (.231 4HR) homers in his Royals debut after being acquired from the Mets for a 2nd round draft pick as Kansas City regains 1st place by a half game. Rookie Ruppert Jones (.275 3HR) also hit a three run shot for K.C.
