-The last place Mets fall six games behind the 5th place Expos as John Candelaria improves to 7-5, 2.69 with the win
Pittsburgh 7 at Philadelphia 6
-The Pirates jump out to a 7-0 lead off John Denny (4-9, 4.07) and hang on thanks to Kent Tekulve’s (18Sv, 2.08) two inning sof relief.
Chicago 6 at St. Louis 7
-Reggie Smith’s 18th home run was his second of the game and it won the game in the 9th for the Cardinals who entered the night in a 3rd place tie with the Cubs. Lou Brock had three extra base hits and a steal for the Cards
Houston 4 at Atlanta 0
-
The Braves were the one team J.R. Richard struggled against in his 1975 Cy Young season but he has his best outing of this season here improving to 6-7, 5.03 with the shutout. He also had 2 RBI’s for the 1st place Astros
San Francisco 2 at Cincinnati 3
-Bill Bonham (8-6, 4.11) pitched eight solid innings and Rawly Eastwick saved his 20th as the Reds remain 1.5 off the pace in the West
Los Angeles 1 at San Diego 2
-Randy Jones (11-3, 3.52) and Rollie Fingers (18Sv, 2.70) shut down the Dodgers as the Padres maintain a share of 1st place with the Astros.

American League
California 7 at Boston 11
-The lead changed hands every half inning between the 6th and the 8th as Bob Watson’s five RBI’s lead the Red Sox over the Angels in this slugfest. Fred Lynn (17) and Jason Thompson (13) homered in a losing cause for the Angels who finish June atop the AL West. Boston is just a game back of the Orioles in the East
Oakland 0 at New York 4
-Catfish Hunter (7-6, 3.55) and Dick Tidrow (1.76) shut out the A”s to extend their losing streak to five games. The Yankees are just 1.5 games behind the Orioles in the East.
Chicago 5 at Baltimore 4
-The last place White Sox win at 1st placed Baltimore again as Jerry Koosman improves to 10-4, 3.06 and Jerry Hairston smacks his 8th home run for Chicago
Minnesota 4 at Cleveland 5 (10)
-A reversal from last night as this time the Twins rally to tie it in the 9th and the Indians prevail 5-4 in ten innings. Ed Crosby knocked in the winning run with a single off John Verhoeven (3-2, 4.23)
Texas 6 at Detroit 4
-Leon Roberts hit his 7th home run and Jim Kern pitched 2.2 innings for his 15th save as the Rangers end the month on a six game winning streak
Kansas City 1 at Milwaukee 2
-Bill Sharp’s single in the 9th plates the winning run as the Brewers sweep the sliding Royals in Milwaukee
