Bosman Shuts Out Royals, A's 1.5 Out

American League
Cleveland 3 at New York 1
-Ross Grimsley (6-1, 2.82) two hit the Yankees as the Indians were one out away from consecutive 3-0 wins in the Bronx. Pat Kelly (.340 5HR 8SB) homered and had a stolen base in the game as Cleveland moves into sole possession of 1st place by a half game.
Detroit 3 at Baltimore 2
-The Tigers suddenly have teeth! Vern Ruhle (2-4, 3.67) earns the win and Bill Freehan had a pair of RBI’s as the Orioles are now tied for 2nd in the East.
California 2 at Chicago 7
-The Angels are 0-3 in June after a 22-5 May as Bobby Bonds (.248 11SB) led the way with four hits and a stolen base
Oakland 1 at Kansas City 0
-The Royals have lost three in a row for the first time as the A’s take three of four at Royals Stadium and are just 1.5 games out. Dick Bosman (5-4, 3.02) outdueled Jim Colborn (3-3, 3.08) as each went the distance.

National League
St. Louis 6 at New York 7
-The Mets rally from 6-0 down in the 7th to avoid the sweep. Rookie Phil Mankowski (.308 3HR) homered off Lerrin LaGrow (0-1, 5.30) to cap the improbably comeback by the last place Mets.
Chicago 2 at Philadelphia 3 (10)
-More dramatics in the NL East as the Phillies walk-off the Cubs in all three games at the Vet. Mike Schmidt (.274 16HR) tied it in the 9th off Bruce Sutter (3.33) and Tony Perez (.302 3HR) won it in the 10th off Ken Frailing (0-4, 5.14) with solo home runs. Rookie Nino Espinosa (2-1, 2.70) has earned a win on consecutive nights.
Montreal 0 at Pittsburgh 1
-The much maligned Jim Rooker (4-3, 5.89) came up big tonight with a masterful 2-hit shutout to keep the Pirates 1.5 games up on the Phillies
San Diego 5 at Atlanta 3
-The Padres win both games in a rain-shortened series in Atlanta to drop the 4th place Braves to 4,5 games off the pace. Rollie Fingers (12Sv, 3.16) pitched a perfect 9th for the save.
Los Angeles 0 at Cincinnati 1
-Another struggling southpaw steps up for a defending NL division champ as Fred Norman (4-6, 4.06) combines with Rawly Eastwick (14Sv, 2.12) to shut the Dodgers out 1-0 and keep the Reds two off the pace. Cincinnati heads to San Diego next.
San Francisco 1 at Houston 8
-The Astros pound out 15 hits and rookie phenom Mark Lemongello is now (9-2, 1.45) as the Astros remain a game out in the West
