-Fran Healy drove in three runs in his first start behind the plate of the season for the Yankees as they further tighten the four-team race atop the AL East. New York raps out 17 hits against Rick Waits (4-6, 5.25) and the Indians bullpen. Dick Tidrow (13Sv, 2.09) pitched two innings for the save
Milwaukee 5 at Baltimore 2
-Hank Aaron’s (.261 12th) pinch-hit grand slam vaulted the Brewers to a win in Baltimore. The Orioles fall back into a 1st place tie with Boston who were rained out.
California 7 at Minnesota 8
-The Twins rally from 6-2 down to take a 7-6 lead into the 9th. Don Baylor’s (.253) two out single was his 5th RBI of the game to tie it but the Twins would end their losing streak on Chris Speier’s (.256) RBI in the bottom half off rookie Greg Minton (1-1, 3.52). Larry Hisle (.310 10HR 10SB) had two home runs in the game and scored the winning run after singling and stealing 2nd
Oakland 8 at Kansas City 3
-Willie Horton’s (.276 6HR) three-run home run capped a six-run Oakland Rally in the 9th as the A’s get a clutch win in K.C.. The Royals lead the A’s by 3.5 in the West.
Chicago 3 at Texas 2
-All the runs were scored in the 1st as Jerry Koosman (8-2, 2.80) defeated Jackie Brown (3-5, 3.79) despite the White Sox not registering a hit after the 1st inning.

St. Louis 5 at New York 1 (12)
-Ron Fairly (.333) hit his first home run of the season to cap a four run Cardinal 12th as Joaquin Andujar (3.48), Mark Littell (2-2, 1.69) and Will McEnaney (5.40) five-hit the Mets. Dave Kingman (.185) went 0-5 in his New York debut. He as acquired from the Padres along with a draft pick for Bobby Valentine and Mike Phillips.
Chicago 8 at Philadelphia 9
-Garry Maddox’s (.218) 4th RBI of the game was the game winning single in the bottom of the 9th as the Phillies win a see-saw affair with the Cubs. Bobby Murcer (.250 5HR) hit two home runs in a losing cause for Chicago
Montreal 2 at Pittsburgh 3
-Rick Reuschel (7-2, 1.87) and Kent Tekulve (11Sv, 2.45) protect the slim lead Richie Hebner’s (.272) two-run single in the 4th provided for the Pirates.
San Diego 10 at Atlanta 4
-The Padres score six in the 2nd to erase an early 3-1 deficit and earn Rich Folkers (1-1, 3.96) a win in his first ever NL start. He went 0-8 for the Brewers last season.
Los Angeles 1 at Cincinnati 2
-The Reds remain 1.5 back of the Padres as Johnny Bench (.253) singled home Ed Armbrister (.188) with the winning run in the 9th. Clay Carroll (2-0, 2.02) pitched two shutout innings for the save in relief
San Francisco 1 at Houston 2
-The Astros also remain 1.5 back with a 2-1 win. Cesar Cedeno’s (.298) pinch hit double in the 8th scored Greg Gross (.367) with the winning run.
