Zisk, Rangers Romp Red Sox Twice

-The Rangers ravage Cy Young Bruce Kison (3-2, 4.71) for 8 runs in 3.2 innings including Darrell Porter’s grand slam that chased him from the game. Jim Bibby (1Sv, 4.24), recently demoted from the rotation, pitched 4 shutout innings in relief of winner Mike Kekich (4-1, 3.79)

-The Rangers hang 11 on the Sox again as Richie Zisk went 4-4 and homered in both ends of the doubleheader. This time Fergie Jenkins (3-1, 4.43) took the brunt of the damage for the suddenly sputtering Sox

-Joe Lahoud’s (4th) pinch-hit home run in the 10th off Yankee relief ace Dick Tidrow (1-2, 2.08) earned K.C. their 9th straight victory
California 1 at Baltimore 3
-Bobby Grich (3) and Ken Singleton (5) homered and Wayne Garland (3-0, 2.40) pitched seven solid innings as the Orioles halt the Angels 4-game winning streak
Oakland 6 at Cleveland 3
-The AL West is really having it’s way in the AL East parks this week – five A’s had two hits in this game won by Dick Bosman (3-3, 3.64)
Minnesota 6 at Detroit 4
-Rod Carew (1), Eric Soderholm (7) and Larry Hisle (5) all go deep as the Twins upend the toothless Tigers again
Chicago 2 at Milwaukee 1
-The White Sox win for just the 2nd time in twelve games thanks to Jerry Koosman’s (5-1, 1.88) dominance. Brewers ace Mike Caldwell (3-3, 2.88) took the loss

San Diego 8 at Chicago 5 (10)
-The Padres win in extras again as Rollie Fingers (2-0, 0.98) pitched two innings for the win and Mike Hargrove drove in the game winning run for the second straight day at Wrigley
San Francisco 0 at Pittsburgh 6
-Rick Reuschel (4-0, 1.16) stops the Bucs’ bleeding with a 2-hit masterpiece. Gene Tenace (7) and Jim Fregosi (2) homered to also help end the Pirates 5 game skid
Los Angeles 2 at St. Louis 3
- Lou Brock doubled home Bake McBride with the winning run in the bottom of the 9th. Will McEnaney (2-2, 6.11) was credited with the win, while the previously lights out Al Downing (0-1, 0.69) took the loss. The Cardinals have won 4 in a row and are back to .500
New York 3 at Cincinnati 6
-Joe Morgan picked up where he left off yesterday with his 3rd home run of the year and Fred Norman (2-4, 5.22) won in his return to the rotation as the Reds dispose of the lowly Mets
Montreal 1 at Houston 2
-Davey Lopes (2) homered and Mike Ivie drove in the go-ahead run in the 7th as Joe Niekro (2-2, 4.81) and the Astros nip the Expos.
