Splittorff Remains Perfect as Royals Down Yankees

-Paul Splittorff (8-0, 1.46) with another complete game and does not allow an earned run. He also added two hits and an RBI
Boston 1 at Texas 2
-The losing continues for the Red Sox, this their 5th straight as Stan Perzanowski (5-0, 1.74) and Jim Kern (7SV, 0.69) shut down the champs
Baltimore 4 at California 7
-The Angels have won four in a row and 8 of 11 despite three Orioles home runs. Dave Lemaczyk (1-1, 4.63) with the win and Greg Minton got the final out for a save in his first MLB appearance
Cleveland 1 at Oakland 4
-Sonny Siebert (4-3, 4.30) strikes out 8 Indians without walking a batter as the A’s remain 4.5 back of K.C. in the West

San Francisco 2 at Montreal 6
-Rusty Staub (.286 5HR) had four hits including two home runs as Bill Lee (4-2, 2.82) and the Expos hand the Giants their 5th straight defeat

-Ed Kranepool (.268 6HR) homered and drove in three as Jon Matlack (2-5, 3.79) goes the distance for the Mets. L.A. has lost four straight
San Diego 6 at Philadelphia 11
-Mike Schmidt’s MLB best 13th home run of the season highlighted a seven-run Philadelphia 8th inning as the Phils torch the previously unhittable Butch Metzger (1-1, 2.45) and Rollie Fingers (3.05) in the outburst
Chicago 0 at Atlanta 3

Make it ten straight defeats for the Cubs as Buzz Capra (6-3, 2.44) strikes out nine batters without issuing a walk. The Braves are 16-5 since a 5-11 start.
St. Louis 8 at Cincinnati 6
-Reggie Smith homers in his Cardinals debut as five Cards have two hit games in the victory
Pittsburgh 6 at Houston 9
-The Pirates fall into second place behind the Phillies as their starting pitching – other than Rick Reuschel – continues to struggle. The Bucs score 4 in the 1st but Bob Moose (7.20) gave them all back in the 2nd. Previously stellar Dave Giusti (2-3, 1.86) gave up 5 runs in the 7th and 8th and took the loss
