A Pair of Three Hitters as Forsch Outduels Bonham

National League
San Francisco 3 at Montreal 14
-Unlike their Bay Area counterparts the Giants cannot win a game. The Expos score six runs in an inning twice and Rusty Staub homered for the third time in two days as the ‘Spos hammer the Giants. Clay Kirby (1-0, 1.35) won his Expos debut after being signed as a Free Agent a few days ago. Pete Falcone (32.40) gave up 6 runs in 1.2 innings in his Giants debut
Los Angeles 2 at New York 7
-The Dodgers emulate the rival Giants by being swept easily at an NL East bottom feeder. Tom Seaver (3-1, 5.36) returned from a brief stint in the minors to strike out 11 and toss a complete game and Mike Phillips (.206 1HR) homered and drove in four
San Diego 8 at Philadelphia 2
-The Phillies woke up this morning in 1st place for the first time and had their ace Steve Carlton (2-4, 2.18) going today but the day didn’t finish as well as it started. Joe McIntosh (4-0, 2.04) continues to thrive in the Padres rotation
Chicago 8 at Atlanta 4
-The losing streak ends at ten for the Cubs as Andre Dawson and Vic Harris each drive in three
St. Louis 1 at Cincinnati 0
-A pair of 3-hit complete games as Bob Forsch (3-2, 3.62) outduels Bill Bonham (4-3, 2.77) as the Cards take two of three at Riverfront
Pittsburgh 6 at Houston 1

-Omar Moreno with his first MLB home run and stolen base as the Pirates vault back into 1st place as Bert Blyleven (3-2, 3.74) defeats Rick Rhoden (3-1, 3.22)

American League
 Milwaukee 3 at Chicago 2 (gm 1)
-Bill Travers (2-4, 5.45) with his 2nd win of the week for the Brewers
Milwaukee 3 at Chicago 7 (gm 2)
-Bobby Bonds (.240 5HR) with a pair of home runs and Ron Schueler (2-3, 8.53) earned the win in relief in his return from the Farm as the Sox earn the split
Detroit 3 at Minnesota 0 (gm1 – 10innings)
-A rare pitchers dual for the Twins and a rare win for Detroit as Bill Madlock (.366) ripped a bases-loaded bases-clearing double in the 10th for the win. Dave Roberts (2.45), Bill Campbell (W1-2, 4.95) and John Hiller (2Sv, 1.99) combined on the 5-hit shutout
Detroit 7 at Minnesota 1 (gm 2)
-The previously 7-24 Tigers sweep the doubleheader from the Twins as rookie Mark Fidrych (1-1, 2.25) went the distance for his 1st win and Dave Collins (.303 3HR) hit his first home run as a Tiger
New York 8 at Kansas City 6
-Seems the only man who can hit K.C. pitching is George Scott who they traded to the Yankees last summer. Boomer with two triples a home run and 5RBI as the Yankees manage to win a series at Royals Stadium. No small feat so far in 1976.
Boston 6 at Texas 2
-Carlton Fisk (.325 6HR) homered and tripled as the BoSox salvage a game in Arlington behind rookie Rick Krueger (1-1, 3.20)
Baltimore 4 at California 7
The Angels take a page out of the Orioles playbook by hammering four home runs – Fred Lynn (6), Bobby Jones (2), Bill Sudakis (2), and Ron Jackson (2) – who the O’s traded to them in Spring Training. It’s been a great start for the Orioles and Jim Palmer (4-3, 2.96) but they go 1-5 in the Golden State this week.
Cleveland 2 at Oakland 3
-Don Sutton joins Paul Splittorff in the 8-0 club and lowered his ERA to 1.99 as the A’s complete the sweep of the Indians and move 3.5 back of the Royals in the West
