-Rusty Staub (.259 3HR) didn’t start tonight but he’d come off the bench in the 6th and tag Ed Halicki (3-3, 2.47) for a 3-run home run to vault the Expos into a lead they would not relinquish. Steve Rogers (2-3, 3.86) got the win and Chuck Taylor (2Sv, 3.60) the save.
Los Angeles 1 at New York 2
-The lowly Mets have put together three straight wins as rookie Bob Myrick improves to 2-1, 2.83. His shutout bid was spoiled by Lee Lacy’s solo shot in the 9th.
San Diego 7 at Philadelphia 4
-Willie Davis’s (.320) double in the 9th off Tug McGraw (1-2, 2.10) drove in two to break a 4-4 tie and Rollie Fingers (9Sv, 1.33) would secure the win in the bottom half as the Padres are winners of 10 of 11 games
St. Louis 1 at Cincinnati 4
-Jack Billingham (2-5, 3.44) was given a new lease on life with a trade from the last place Tigers to the Big Red Machine and he looked motivated tonight going 8 strong for the victory. Joe Morgan (.351 7HR) hit his 4th home run in three days.
Pittsburgh 2 at Houston 4
-Rookie Mark Lemongello (5-2, 1.55) continues to sparkle in the Astrodome as he defeats Dock Ellis (1-4, 4.03) and the 1st place Pirates

-Rookie Gary Beare (2-3, 3.76) hits his first MLB home run to go with his first complete game as Robin Yount’s (.330) hits help lead the way for the Brewers
Detroit 8 at Minnesota 14
-Dan Ford (.333 6HR) continues to feast off Tiger pitching with a home run and 4RBI and that didn’t sit well with rookie Steve Grilli (19.29) who plunked him after allowing five runs in 1.1 innings. Ford charged the mound, the benches emptied. It was a fun night for the fans at the Met who wish the 7-25 Tigers could be the opponent more often.

-The Yankees have won three in a row to move back to .500 as they hand the Royals just there2nd loss in 14 games. George Scott came over from KC in a lopsided deal last July and he continues to haunt K.C. as he hit his 7th home run , drove in three and has played a key part in both of the Royals recent losses.
Boston 4 at Texas 6
-The champs have now lost 10 of 12 as the Rangers rip Cy Young Bruce Kison (3-3, 5.13) for the second straight time. Rookie Lee Mazzilli (.357 3HR) continues to star as he homered and scored three runs for the Rangers.
Baltimore 1 at California 4
-Rookie Ron Jackson was traded from the Orioles to the Angels after spring training and he hits his first career home run against his former team as the Angels have now won 8 of 11 games. Offseason free agent signing Mike Torrez (3-1, 2.78) took his first loss for the Orioles.
Cleveland 3 at Oakland 6
-Mike Norris (1-0, 2.57) pitched seven strong in his MLB debut as the defending AL West champs pick up a game on the Royals in the West. Billy Williams went deep again and now has 7 home runs for the A’s
