RBI Leader Ivie Delivering For Astros


National League
Montreal 4 at Chicago 6
-The Expos hit three home runs but lose on Steve Ontiveros’s (.376) two run single in the 8th off Wayne Granger (2-5, 5.03). The Expos have lost six in a row
St. Louis 0 at Philadelphia 6
-17 game winner John Denny (2-6, 4.22) could be rounding into form as he made his second straight strong start with today’s shutout of the Cards.
New York 3 at Pittsburgh 8
-
Rennie Stennett (.364) and Ed Kirkpatrick (.253) had three hits apiece as the Bucs maintain 1st place in the NL East
San Francisco 4 at Atlanta 9
-The Braves score four each in the 6th and 7th as they rough up Giant ace Ed Halicki (4-4, 2.70).
Atlanta is 22-11 since a 4-10 start.
San Diego 7 at Cincinnati 0
-Al Bumbry (.298 4HR) hit a grand slam and Alan Foster (4-4, 2.09) shut down the Big Red Machine as the Padres end the Reds four game winning streak
Los Angeles 1 at Houston 3
-Phenom Mark Lemongello (8-2, 1.50), Ken Forsch (9Sv, 3.04) and Mike Ivie (.304 12HR) lead the Astros back into 2nd place in the West. Ivie homered and drove in all three runs and leads the National League with 41 RBI's


American League
Boston 1 at New York 3
-Ed Figueroa (2-6, 4.50) was demoted to a mopup role after his last start but pitches a complete game in his return to the rotation. The Red Sox are a ½ game back of the Orioles and the Yankees are 2 off the lead.
Cleveland 2 at Baltimore 6
-The Orioles stop the bleeding for the time being as Ken Singleton (.395) drove in two and Jim Palmer (5-5, 3.07) pitched eight strong innings for the win. The Orioles are back in first by a half game after a one day hiatus.
Milwaukee 1 at Detroit 4
-Vern Ruhle (1-4, 4.15) won his first and rookie Larry Herndon (.281 3HR) homered for Detroit
Oakland 4 at Minnesota 3
-The A’s jump out to a 4-0 lead against Vic Albury (2-5, 4.72) and hang on to keep pace with the Royals in the West
Chicago 1 at Kansas City 3
- Bruce DalCanton (5-0, 2.04) was released by the White Sox during the off-season and makes them pay today as he combines with Marty Pattin (6Sv, 1.31) for the win
California 1 at Texas 0
-The Angels keep pace with the Royals and A’s as Tommy John (5-4, 3.04) defeates Tommy Boggs (3-5, 3.01) in an all rookie pitcher duel in Arlington
