Goltz Remains Perfect for Scorching Hot Angels

American League
Boston 5 at New York 4 (10)
-Dwight Evans (.327 6HR) hit a three-run home run in the 8th to tie it and Jim Rice (.320 13HR) won it in the 10th with a blast off Dick Tidrow (2-5, 2.09) as the Red Sox rally for a split of the four game series. Skip Lockwood (3-0, 2.14) pitched two shutout innings for the win. The Red Sox and Indians are tied atop the AL East.
Cleveland 6 at Baltimore 4
-George Hendrick (.235 7HR) hit a pair of home runs and Ross Grimsley (5-1, 3.16) got the win as the Indians take three of four at the fading Orioles who now trail the Indians and Red Sox by a half game.
Milwaukee 4 at Detroit 3 (13)
-Hank Aaron’s (.260 11HR) solo home run off Jim Crawford (0-2, 3.72) in the 13th salvaged a split of the four-game set for the Brewers
Oakland 5 at Minnesota 0 – game 1
-Sonny Siebert (5-3, 3.01) tosses a two hit shutout and Willie Crawford (.304 1HR) hit his first home run of the season as the A’s will look to sweep all four at the Met in the nightcap.
Oakland 7 at Minnesota 6 (10) – game 2
-Chris Speier’s error in the 10th plated the winning run for the A’s as they rally to sweep the four game series from the last place Twins and move 3.5 behind the Royals in the West. The Twins are languishing in last and are a miserable 8-20 at home at the Met.
Chicago 7 at Kansas City 4
-Errors by Freddie Patek and Ruppert Jones open the floodgates for a six run Chicago rally as the White Sox split the four games at Royal Stadium and manage to take four of seven from K.C. over the past two weekends
California 11 at Texas 2
-Dave Goltz is a perfect 9-0, 2.08 and Fred Lynn (.327 11HR), Jason Thompson (.302 7HR) and Don Baylor (.243 6HR) all went deep as the Angels sweep the Rangers and are now just 5.5 behind the Royals. California is a staggering 16-2 since May 12.

National League
Montreal 1 at Chicago 0 (10)
-Ed Herrmann’s (.393 3HR) pinch hit home run off Bruce Sutter (4-1, 3.00) broke a scoreless tie in the 10th as Bill Lee (2.71), Woodie Fryman (1-1, 4.32) and Wayne Granger (1Sv, 4.79) shut out the Cubs.
St. Louis 3 at Philadelphia 2 (11)
-Bake McBride’s (.297) third hit of the game scored Lou Brock with the winning run as the Cardinals take two of three at the Vet. Mark Littell (1-2, 1.86) pitched two innings for the win, while Tom Hilgendorf (2-2, 1.11) took the loss.
New York 5 at Pittsburgh 6
-Willie Stargell (.270 8HR) homered and drove in three as the Pirates extend their lead in the division to 1.5  games on the Phillies.
San Francisco 5 at Atlanta 6 (game 1)
-The Giants had sixteen hits but their comeback attempt in the 9th was snuffed out by Max Leon (9 Sv, 1.32) who relieved winner John Montefusco (4-6, 2.80).
San Francisco 7 at Atlanta 6 (game 2)
-Rookie Jack Clark (.244 2HR), and Glenn Adams (.250 3HR) homered as the Giants hang on to earn a split in the doubleheader
San Diego 2 at Cincinnati 6
-Joe Morgan (.307 9HR), Dave Concepcion (.255 5HR) and Johnny Bench (.248 12HR) all went deep as Jack Billingham (4-6, 3.90) improved to 3-1 as a Red as Cincinnati has taken two of the first three in this pivotal wraparound weekend set at Riverfront. The Reds look to move to 1.5 games back in Monday’s finale.
Los Angeles 4 at Houston 5
-Ken Forsch (10Sv, 2.89) saves all three of the Astros wins in this four game series as the Astros answer a four-run Dodger 7th with four runs of their own. Mike Ivie (.309) didn’t start today but came off the bench and laced a go-ahead three run triple to up his league best total to 44. The Astros are just 1.5 back of the Padres in the West.
