Jason Thompson Wins Game With Home Run - Again

New York 4 at Boston 5
-Carlton Fisk (.303) doubled home Bob Watson with the winning run in the 8th off Yankees ace reliever Dick Tidrow (1-3, 1.67) as the Red Sox get a much needed win
Baltimore 2 at Cleveland 5
-The Orioles are slipping as Oscar Gamble (.308 5HR) homered and Rick Waits (3-5, 4.60) pitched seven shutout innings to extend the team’s respective streaks to four games
Detroit 2 at Milwaukee 4
-Cecil Cooper (.216 4HR) and Hank Aaron (.248 10HR) hit solo home runs in the 8th off Bill Campbell (1-3, 4.94) as the Brewers end a six game slide
Kansas City 4 at Chicago 9
-Bobby Bonds (.256 7HR) and Jim Spencer (.315 6HR) hit home runs and Jerry Koosman improved to 7-2, 2.42 as the White Sox hand the Royals consecutive losses for just the second time this year
Texas 5 at Minnesota 2
-Mickey Rivers (.291 14SB) and Bert Campaneris (.236 13SB) each swipe a pair of bags as Jackie Brown (3-3, 3.39), Jim Kern (8SV, 0.55) and the Rangers upend the last place Twins
Oakland 6 at California 8

Rookie Jason Thompson (.297 6HR) is making a name for himself in Southern California. Thompson hit a pinch-hit game winning two-run home run off Dave Heaverlo (1-1, 3.76) in the bottom of the 9th as the Angels win for the tenth time in eleven games. The teams combined for seven home runs in the game including two by the A’s Billy Williams (.353 11HR). Thompson also hit a walk-off home run earlier this week versus the Brewers

National League
Houston 6 at Chicago 2
-The wind was blowing out in Wrigley as former Cub Davey Lopes (.218 4HR) was one of four Astros to hit home runs as the Astros end the Cubs four-game winning streak
Cincinnati 1 at Pittsburgh 6
-Bill Bonham (4-4, 3.50) won 23 games last year but was blown out twice by the Pirates. Today he doesn’ record an out as Willie Stargell’s (.286 7HR) grand slam chases him from the game five batters in. The Reds are facing their first regular season crisis -  they’ve dropped six in a row.
Atlanta 1 at St. Louis 3
-Bob Forsch (4-2, 3.30) and Mark Littell (11Sv, 1.04) shut down the Braves and Bake McBride (.290 4HR) went deep for the second straight game for the Cardinals
Montreal 4 at Los Angeles 5
-A three-run Expos rally fell short in the 9th when Elias Sosa (8Sv, 1.59) got Dan Driessen (.298) to ground out with the bases loaded to end the Dodgers eight-game losing streak. Bill Buckner (.269 2HR) hit a grand slam off Expos ace John Candelaria (5-2, 2.97) for L.A.
New York 6 at San Diego 8
-Dave Kingman (.190 6HR) has been the one Padre to struggle but he hits two home runs tonight as the Padres rally from a 4-0 1st inning deficit. Tom Seaver (3-2, 6.35) surrendered all eight runs for the Mets
Philadelphia 1 at San Francisco 3
-Glenn Adams (.245) hit a pinch-hit two run double in the 8th off Gene Garber (3-1, 3.66) to lead the Giants to victory over the Phillies.
