Horton Hammers Hiller For Game Winning Homer

-Rick Wise (3-4, 3.44) and Skip Lockwood (8Sv, 2.50) combine to pull the Red Sox remain 1.5 back of the Orioles in the East
Minnesota 5 at New York 4
-Dale Murray (4.42) was acquired in a trade with the Expos on Saturday and Eric Soderholm welcomes him to the American League with a two-run go ahead single in the top of the 9th as the Twins rally to defeat the Yankees
Texas 0 at Baltimore 1
-Baltimore returns to the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium after a 3-12 road trip. They did go two for two in Texas in that swing and they down the Rangers again. There were only five hits combined in the game but one of them was a Billy Smith (.214 2HR) solo shot off Tommy Boggs (3-4, 3.26) in the 2nd
Kansas City 3 at Cleveland 4 (10)
-The Tribe have rattled off six straight wins as they trip up the 32-12 Royals in extras. Gorman Thomas (.263 11HR) hit a three-run shot in the 6th and the Tribe win on George Hendrick’s (.233) RBI single in the 10th. Harry Parker (3-2, 3.23) struck out two in the tenth and got the win
Oakland 7 at Detroit 4
-Willie Horton (.296 5HR) had four hits including a tiebreaking solo home run off John Hiller (1-4, 2.50) to lead off the 9th as the A’s pick up a game in the West
California 2 at Milwaukee 7
-Ben Oglivie led the majors with 48 home runs last year and signed with the Brewers as a free agent.  He may be missing Tiger Stadium as he only has one home run this season but he does raise his batting average to .323 with four hits as the Brewers hand the Angels just their second loss in thirteen games

National League
Atlanta 3 at Chicago 1
-
Marty Perez (.357) had three hits including a tiebreaking single in the 9th as Buzz Capra (7-4, 3.01) wins and Max Leon (1.42) earns his 8th save for the Braves
Houston 4 at Pittsburgh 8
-Jim Rooker (3-3, 7.88) returns from the farm and pitches a much needed complete game for the Pirates. Mike Cosgrove (0-3, 5.47) struggled in his spot start for the Astros
Cincinnati 7 at St. Louis 5
-George Foster (.318 12HR) homered for the second straight day and had four hits as the Reds have bounced back to win two in a row following a seven-game slide. Jack Billingham (3-6, 4.05) won his second game for the Reds and rookie Joaquin Andujar (3-3, 4.01) had his first poor outing for the Cardinals.
New York 5 at Los Angeles 6
-The Mets rally from 5-2 down but lose in the 9th on a Mike Phillips error. The Dodgers have won four straight
Philadelphia 5 at San Diego 7
-
Dave Kingman (.207 9HR) is starting to heat up. His three-run home run in the 8th capped a rally from 5-0 down as the Padres send the Phillies back to 2nd place in the NL East
Montreal 1 at San Francisco 3
-The Giants like the Dodgers are playing better now – or maybe that’s what happens when the Mets and Expos come to the coast. Vida Blue (3-4, 3.36) with the win and Gary Lavelle (4Sv, 2.67) with the save.
