American League
New York 7 at Chicago 16
-The White Sox score eight runs in the 4th inning and build a 16-2 lead. Ed Figueroa (1-6, 5.17), Dave Pagan (6.35) and rookie Mike Wallace (13.50) took the brunt of the punishment for the Yankees. Jim Spencer (.311 5HR) homered and drove in three runs for the White Sox and pitcher Bart Johnson (2-3, 3.51) helped his own cause with a grand slam.
Boston 3 at Minnesota 4
-Dan Ford (.343 9HR) hit his third home run in two days, this time in a victorius effort as the Jim Hughes (2-0 , 2.20) gave Minnesota a quality start they’ve sorely been in need of.
Baltimore 1 at Kansas City 2
-Paul Splittorff (9-0, 1.43) outduels Jim Palmer (4-4, 2.96) as the Royals take both games in this match of division leaders. Amos Otis (.289 15SB) swiped a pair of bags and had the game winning RBI.
Cleveland 9 at Texas 4
-Pat Kelly (.368 4HR) wants more playing time in a talented Indians outfield and he continues to make the case with a home run and three RBI’s in this one as the Indians take two in Arlington following a winless trek through the Golden State.
Detroit 3 at California 1
-John Wockenfuss (.471) was cut by the Tigers in spring training after spending 1975 with the Phillies. He was signed last week and provides dividends here with the go-ahead home run in the 9th off Mickey Scott (0-2, 0.82). John Hiller (1-3, 1.75) strikes out three in two innings to help break the Angels eight game winning streak.
Milwaukee 2 at Oakland 4
-Well it hasn’t been easy but the defending AL West champs are not letting the Royals run away with the division. Dave Hamilton (3-1, 3.32) and Dave Heaverlo (7Sv, 3.20) earn the win and save respectively in both wins versus the Brewers as the A’s complete a 8-2 home stand and improve to 25-15 on the campaign. They head down the coast to face a streaking Angels team next.
