Not tonight as Wayne Garland (2-0, 2.63) went the distance and the O’s hit four home runs - two of them off former teammate Ken Holtzman who’s ERA is 16.88 after allowing three runs in the 8th in relief of loser Catfish Hunter (2-2, 3.75)

- The Royals erupt for 8 in the 4th off Bill Singer (0-3, 9.98) and rookie John Verhoeven. Winner Paul Splittorff wins his 4th and lowers his ERA to a microscopic 0.27 and combines with Don Hood (0.00) on the shutout

- Dave Goltz upped his mark to 3-0, 2.03 as the Angels edge the White Sox

-The Cubs chase Bob Moose in the 3rd but the Pirates rally thanks to 7 shutout relief innings from Sam McDowell (2-0, 0.79), Dave Giusti (H, 1.38), and Kent Tekulve (3SV, 0.00)
Montreal 12 at St. Louis 9
- The Expos release their starting pitcher after the game and still win! Dave McNally (16.71 ERA) got chased in the 3rd but the Cardinals pitching wasn’t any better. Reliever Greg Terlecky (0-3, 6.75) took the loss for St. Louis – their sixth straight
Cincinnati 2 at Atlanta 6
- Willie Montanez’s 3-run home run in the 7th gave the struggling Braves a comfortable lead they would not relinquish. The struggles continue meanwhile for Reds starter Fred Norman (1-3, 5.50)

- Steve Yeager homered and Burt Hooton (2-1, 2.05) pitched 8 strong innings to knock off Nolan Ryan (2-1, 5.59) and the Astros
San Diego 1 at San Francisco 2
- Vida Blue (1-1, 3.60) outdueled Bill Grief (0-2, 5.91) and Milt May homered as the Giants avoid the sweep
