-Dusty Baker’s 1st home run of the year chased Joe Niekro (1-2 , 5.48) and helped lift Andy Messersmith (3-2, 3.18) to his third straight victory. Elias Sosa earned his 4th save and hasn’t allowed a run yet this season.

-The Tigers take a 3-0 lead early but cannot win consecutive games for the first time as the Indians win on Duane Kuiper’s 9th inning single off Vern Ruhle (0-1, 1.35). Harry Parker (1-1, 1.64) was perfect in the 8th and 9th for the win
