Spaceman Halts Expos Losing and Braves Winning Streaks

National League
Atlanta 0 at Montreal 2
-Bill Lee (2-1, 2.70) pitches a 6-hit shutout to halt both the Braves winning streak and Expos losing streaks at five. The Braves won the first two games of this home/away set at Fulton County Stadium
Houston 10 at New York 5
-The Mets are 0-7 at Shea as one of their lone bright spots, Craig Swan (1-2, 2.73) was chased in the 2nd inning by the Astros
Cincinnati 0 at Philadelphia 5
-Jim Lonborg (3-0, 1.95) tosses a four-hitter and Fred Norman’s (1-4, 5.91) struggles continue as the Phils win the first of two games at the Vet after losing the prior two nights at Riverfront
Pittsburgh 9 at Los Angeles 7
-The Pirates build a 9-0 lead against Ken Brett (1-2, 13.11) and Charlie Hough (3.86) after 4 innings. The Dodgers put together a 7-run 7th but still lose by two runs. Al Oliver had 4 hits Kent Tekulve recorded his 5th save
St. Louis 1 at San Diego 3
-Randy Jones is a perfect 4-0, 3.00 and he helped his own cause with his 2nd home run of the season as 2nd place San Diego draws closer to Cincinnati in the west
Chicago 2 at San Francisco 1
-The surprising Cubbies remain tied for 1st in the NL east as Geoff Zahn (3-1, 4.66), Ramon Hernandez (H, 1.13) and Goose Gossage (5Sv, 4.50) hand last place San Francisco their 5th straight defeat


 

American League
Cleveland 9 at Chicago 5 (10)
-Pat Kelly hit two home runs and Bruce Bochte hit a 3-run double in the 10th as the Indians rebound from blowing a 5-2 lead in the 9th to win. Because of rain it was the White Sox first game in five days
Baltimore 2 at Minnesota 3 (11)
-The Orioles finally lose a close one as Larry Hisle’s 11th inning home run off Dyar Miller (2-1, 0.93) ends their 6 game winning streak
New York 4 at California 9
-Rookie Tommy John (1-2, 3.06) took a shutout into the 9th and New York newcomers Don Gullett (1-2, 3.90) and Ken Holtzman (18.00) were pounded by the Angels.
Boston 7 at Oakland 3
-Fergie Jenkins ups his mark to 3-0, 2.32 as the Red Sox take 2 of 3 in this ALCS rematch. The Sox are only a ½ game back of the Orioles after the win
Detroit at Kansas City doubleheader, ppd
Milwaukee at Texas, ppd
