San Diego's Foster Shuts Out St. Louis

-Dennis Eckersley is 3-1, 2.50 and rookie Wayne Tyrone is 9-10 on the season batting as the Cubs remain a ½ game back of the lead. The Giants have lost 4 straight and now are alone in the NL West cellar
Los Angeles 2 at Pittsburgh 3
-Jim Rooker (2-1, 4.95) recovered from a 2-run Dodger 1st for the victory
San Diego 6 at St. Louis 0
-Alan Foster with a 5-hit shutout and Tito Fuentes hit a 2-run home run, his first as a Padre
Montreal 2 at Atlanta 3
-Marty Perez and Willie Montanez with RBI singles in the 9th as the Braves rally for their 4th straight victory. Last week’s NL pitcher of the week Max Leon with the win in relief
Philadelphia 2 at Cincinnati 6

-Cesar Geronimo, George Foster and Mike Lum homered for the Reds who won despite Mike Schmidt’s MLB best 9th of the season. Rawly Eastwick – last year’s saves leader – is on top of that category again with 7
New York 6 at Houston 9
-The Astros rally with 5 in the 8th to hand the Mets their 7th straight defeat


American League
Baltimore 13 at Minnesota 6
-The Orioles are undefeated versus teams other than the Red Sox. They explode for 11 runs in the 8th and 9th capped by back to back home runs by Lee May and Doug DeCinces
Detroit 0 at Kansas City 1
-John Hiller is outdueled again  - this time by who else Paul Splittorff who ups his mark to a ridiculous 5-0, 0.21
Milwaukee 3 at Texas 5
-Robin Yount led off the game with a home run but the Rangers prevail. Jim Kern hasn’t allowed a run this season and earned his 3rd save of the season
New York 2 at California 2 (12)
-Tom Egan doubled off Dick Tidrow in the 12th to break the Angels 3-game slide
Boston 1 at Oakland 3
-Billy Williams hits his 4th home run in two days and Don Sutton improved to 5-0, 1.33 as the A’s keep pace with the Royals in the West
