- Cecil Cooper’s 9th inning double broke the deadlock. Kansas City had led 4-0 in the 5th
Milwaukee 5 at Kansas City 2 (gm2)
- The Brewers stun the AL West leaders with the doubleheader sweep thanks to seven solid innings from rookie Gary Beare (1-2, 2.84) and Jim Sundberg’s 3rd home run of the season
Detroit 2 at Texas 3
- Roy Howell and Doug Flynn each had three hits and Jackie Brown (1-1, 2.96) won his first as the Rangers avoid the sweep
Boston 5 at California 4
-The Red Sox hold off a 9th inning rally to complete the sweep and hand the Angels their 12th loss in 14 games
New York 5 at Oakland 11
-Billy Williams rockets three home runs and drives in six as the A’s avoid the sweep

-Joaquin Andujar (1-0, 1.17) posts his first mlb win, thanks in part to Ted Simmons 4th home run of the season

-The Cardinals sweep the doubleheader and the series as Eric Rasmussen (3-1, 2.21) wins his third
New York 2 at Atlanta 4
-Marty Perez led off the bottom of the 1st with a home run off Jon Matlack (0-3, 4.99) as Buzz Capra (2-3, 4.23) and the Braves complete a sweep in this series between last place clubs
Philadelphia 3 at Houston 4 (11)
-The Phillies had a chance to take sole possession of 1st in the East with the Pirates rained out but the Astros rallied thanks to newcomers Cesar Cedeno  - who homered to tie it – and Davey Lopes who homered to win it in extras.
