  • John Hiller fanned 12 Yankees without issuing a walk but the Tigers still drop their 8th straight. Luis Tiant won his 2nd and Dick Tidrow posted his 4th save as the Yankees hurlers outdual Hiller
  • Paul Splittorff is now 3-0 with a 0.35 ERA as K.C. evened their series in Oakland at agame apiece
  • Andre Dawson launched his first two career home runs and fellow rookie Bruce Sutter won his first game in relief as the Cubs improved to a surprising 7-4 by defeating the rival Cardinals
  • Craig Swan and Mickey Lolich 3-hit the Expos as New York extended Montreal's losing streak to five
  • The Pirates took a 2-1 lead in the 13th at Philadelphia but the Phillies rallied in the bottom half as Sixto Lezcano double off Larry Demery plated the winning run
  • Cincinnati only mustered two hits off Houston pitching but that was enough for Gary Nolan who now is a sparkling 3-0, 0.72 in three starts
  • Ron Cey hit his 5th home run of the year and Andy Messersmith is 2-2 on the year after a dominant performance in the Dodgers 10-2 rout at Candlestick
