-Tom Underwood improved to 2-0, 1.80 and George Scott (4), Graig Nettles (5) and Sandy Alomar (1) homered for the Yankees

-Rudy May (2-0, 3.16) spun a 6-hit shutout and Doug DeCinces hit his 8th home run and drove in all three runs for the 1st place Orioles
Minnesota 8 at Cleveland 6
-Eric Soderholm hit his 6th home run and drove in 3 as the Twins score 7 runs off Rick Waits (2-3, 4.46)
Texas 3 at Detroit 5
-Larry Herndon hit his 1st MLB home run and Dave Roberts (3-0, 2.70) went seven strong for the Tigers in the win
Kansas City 8 at Milwaukee 3
-The Royals have barely played lately because of rain but show no signs of rust here. Dennis Leonard (3-2, 2.27) got the win for 1st place K.C.

Cincinnati 0 at New York 2
-Jon Matlack (1-3, 3.86) tossed a 4-hit shutout making a loser out of Tom Carroll (1-1, 3.42) despite his complete game
Atlanta 2 at Philadelphia 1
-Max Leon (5SV, 1.62) struck out the side in the 9th to preserve Buzz Capra’s (3-3, 3.53) win over tough luck Steve Carlton (1-3, 1.90)
St. Louis 4 at Los Angeles 3 (11)
-Lou Brock’s RBI double in the 11th provided the difference for the Cardinals
Chicago 4 at San Diego 5 (11)
-Recent call-up Aurelio Rodriguez singled off Ramon Hernandez (1-1, 2.00) to plate Hector Torres with the winning run. The Padres finish April on top of the NL West with the win
Pittsburgh 5 at San Francisco 12
-Jim Rooker (2-2, 6.65) fell out of the rotation last year and may do so again after not surviving the 2nd in this one. Butch Metzger and Manny Trillo scored 3 runs each while Von Joshua and Ken Reitz had 3 RBI’s for the Giants
