- Rangers rookie Tommy Boggs went eight strong and chipped in a two-run home run himself as the Rangers won their first game of the season 5-3 at Minnesota
- Defending AL Cy Young Bruce Kison and free agent signing Dick Drago combined to shutout the Tigers. The game was scoreless in the 9th before Boston erupted for 5 runs - including back to back home runs by Bob Watson and Jim Rice
- Doug DeCinces was at it again for the undefeated Orioles. He hit the game winning home run in the bottom of the 11th off Milwaukee's Pete Broberg to up Baltimore's mark to 4-0
- Kansas City fell for the first time, in large part to three shutout relief innings by California's Tom Walker
- The Cubs Dennis Eckersley did like Boggs and went eight strong and hit a home run as the Cubs nipped the Phils at Wrigley
- The Pirates are 5-0 as Rick Reuschel outdueled the Expos John Candelaria in Montreal 1-0
- Eric Rasmussen is now 2-0 for the Cardinals as combined with Will McEnaney on a 4-hit shutout of the Mets
