Cards' Rasmussen and Littell One-Hit Expos in Extras

National League
Philadelphia 2 at New York 4
-Leo Foster’s two run single in the 8th broke the tie as the last place Mets hand the suddenly struggling Phillies their fifth straight defeat. Bob Apodaca (2-2, 2.23) pitched 1.2 innings for the win
Chicago 4 at Pittsburgh 6
-The Pirates have expanded their lead in the NL East from 1.5 to 6 games in five days as Bernie Carbo (5), Al Oliver (7) and Dave Parker (8) all homer in this victory.
Montreal 0 at St. Louis 2 (10)
-Lou Brock’s 1st home run of the year was the game winning two run shot as Eric Rasmussen (2.95) and Mark Littell (5-3, 1.99) one-hit the Expos in ten innings. Only Larry Lintz – released by the Cards earlier this year – registered a hit for the visitors.
Cincinnati 2 at Atlanta 4 (10)
-Chris Chambliss’s 3rd home run of the year was the game winning two-run shot in the 10th off Rawly Eastwick  (0-2, 3.09) as the Braves pull to within a game of 3rd place Cincinnati. Rookie Frank LaCorte (34-1, 3.38) pitched three shutout innings for the victory
Houston 1 at San Diego 6
-Randy Jones (10-3, 3.79), Danny Frisella (2.89) and Rollie Fingers (16Sv, 2.86) limit the Astros to just Mike Ivie’s 19th home run of the season as the Padres expand their lead in the NL West to two games over the Astros.
Los Angeles 4 at San Francisco 5 (10)
-Glenn Adams’ 5th home run of the year tied it with two outs in the 9th and Willie McCovey won it for the Giants in the 10th with a game winning single.

American League
Boston 5 at Baltimore 4
-The Red Sox win their fifth in a row as they attempt to return the favour on the O’s who won 3 of 4 at Fenway last weekend. Bob Watson flashed some of his 1975 MVP form with his 7th home run and four RBI’s while Skip Lockwood struck out two and recorded the final five outs for his 16th save
New York 1 at Detroit 7
-The Tigers jump all over Tom Underwood (8-5, 3.53) for five runs in the first two innings and Dave Roberts improves to 5-2, 2.96 for the Tigers
Cleveland 6 at Milwaukee 8
-The Indians rally for six runs in the 8th but cannot come all the way back from the 8-6 deficit. Danny Thomas drove in three runs for the Brewers and Mike Caldwell evened his mark at 7-7, 2.91
Kansas City 16 at Minnesota 4
-The Royals erupt at The Met as John Mayberry hit his 4th home run of the season and drove in four while Frank White went 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBI’s. Dennis Leonard pitched the complete game to improve to 10-5, 3.32
Chicago 6 at California 7
-
How’s this for a trade paying off for the Angels. Don Kirkwood walks Bill Melton with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th to win the game for the Angels. Those two were traded for each other a month ago
Texas 7 at Oakland 2
-Mickey Rivers went 4-for-5 and upped his stolen base total to 29 with three steals as the Rangers win easily. The A’s fall into a 1st place tie with the Angels, just a half game up on the Royals with the loss
