-The Cardinals blow a 4-0 7th inning lead as Jerry Martin tied the game in the 8th with a triple and drove in the winning run in the 10th with a single. A crusher of a loss for the Cardinals.
Chicago 3 at Philadelphia 0 (Game 1)
-Ray Burris (7-6, 3.89) tosses a three-hit shutout and Adrian Garrett smacked his 16th home run as the Cubs move ahead of the Phillies into 3rd place in the NL East

-Geoff Zahn (9-6, 4.28) and Bruce Sutter (13Sv, 3.05) combine to shut down the Phillies and complete the doubleheader sweep for the Cubs.
Montreal 3 at Pittsburgh 11 (Game 1)
-Dave Parker (16), Dave May (22) and Gene Tenace (13) homered and five Pirates had three hits each as the Bucs bomb the Expos. Al Oliver did go 2-for-2 with a pair of walks in a losing cause in his return to Pittsburgh
Montreal 1 at Pittsburgh 13 (Game 2)
-John Candelaria (9-7, 2.73) defeats his former team but the story here is the Pirates offence which scores 24 runs in the doubleheader sweep. Gene Tenace (14) homered in both halves.
Cincinnati 5 at Houston 3 (11)
-George Foster’s 20th home run of the season was a clutch two-run shot in the 11th off Astros ace reliever Ken Forsch (4-4, 2.61) as the Reds win a pivotal game at the Astrodome. The Reds had tied the game in the 8th on an Art Howe error. Rawly Eastwick (3-3, 2.25) pitched two shutout innings for the win after being charged with the loss last night.
Atlanta 5 at Los Angeles 4 (10)
-Mike Jorgensen’s 10th inning double allowed the Braves to turn the tables on the Dodgers who had defeated them 5-4 in extras last night. Yesterday’s winner Hank Webb (1-5, 5.60) takes the loss today while Atlanta’s Max Leon improves to 7-2, 2.48
San Francisco 1 at San Diego 2
-Steve Swisher’s 2nd inning double gave the Padres a 2-0 lead and that would be enough for Brent Strom (8-7, 3.33), Danny Frisella (2.81) and Butch Metzger (4Sv, 4.17) to hold. Charlie Williams (1-8, 2.96) was the tough luck loser for the Giants.

-Rookie Danny Thomas lashed a two-run single off Wayne Garland (11-5, 2.46) in the 8th to vault the Brewers to victory. It was just the second win for the Brewers in eleven tries versus the O’s. Mike Caldwell (9-11, 3.10) and Bill Castro (12Sv, 1.47) earned the decisions for Milwaukee.

- LaMar Johnson’s two run pinch hit double in the 7th was enough for the Rangers to nip the Twins. Jackie Brown (7-10, 4.15) got the win and Jim Kern (20Sv, 1.81) the save. Rookie Pete Redfern (3-7, 4.47) pitched well but took the loss for the Twins.

George Brett eventually tied the game in the 7th with a two-run double and the winning run scored on a Bob Heise 8th inning sacrifice fly. Lindy McDaniel (3.22), Ken Sanders (3-3, 3.04) and Al Hrabosky (3Sv, 0.71) pitched 5.1 innings of no-hit relief for the Royals.
