Rader Rips Game Winner as Padres Rally Past Mets

National League
Houston 2 at Chicago 1
-Ken Forsch earned his 30th save in  31 opportunities, but this one wasn’t easy. He allowed a run in the 9th and would eventually get Rudy Meoli to ground out with men on the corners to end it. The Cubs have lost seven in a row
Cincinnati 2 at Pittsburgh 5
-
Dave Parker hit his 19th home run and John Candelaria (12-7, 2.59) is still perfect in a Pittsburgh uniform as the Pirates end the Reds eight game winning streak.
Atlanta 7 at St. Louis 6
-
The Braves have won four in a row as Jeff Burroughs (5) first inning grand slam off Bob Gibson (12-6, 4.15) holds up as the game winning RBI. Mike Beard (4-5, 5.90) returned from the minors to make his first start of the season and pitched eight innings for the win. He was one of the top relievers in the NL in 1975.
Montreal 2 at Los Angeles 6
-Steve Yeager (13) hit a grand slam and Jerry Reuss (13-5, 3.59) struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter in his complete game victory
New York 8 at San Diego 10
-San Diego scores four in the eighth and wins it in the 9th on Doug Rader’s second home run of the game and seventh of the season
Philadelphia 2 at San Francisco 3
-Jim Barr (9-10, 3.11) earns the win and Rob Andrews (7) and Willie McCovey (23) homer for the Giants

NL East: The Pirates extend their lead to 11 over the Cardinals
NL West: The Astros regain a 2 game lead on the Reds

American League:
New York 5 at Minnesota 6 (13)
-
The Twins rally for three in the 9th – tying the game on an errant Dale Murray pick off throw – and win it on Dan Ford’s 21st home run of the season off of Sparky Lyle (4-10, 3.88) who’s been dreadful for the Yankees since being acquired from Texas. Mike Bacsik (7-4, 4.43) pitched three shutout innings for the win
Cleveland 3 at Kansas City 6
-Hal McRae (8) hit a three run home run and Dennis Leonard (16-8, 3.29) earned the win as K.C. has won four in a row.
Milwaukee 8 at California 10
-The Brewers score six in the ninth to take an 8-7 lead only to lose on a Don Baylor three-run home run, his second of the game and 27th of the season in the bottom half.
Detroit 7 at Oakland 2
-Dave Collins (.344 38SB) had five hits and stole two bases for the second straight night as the Tigers roll over Dick Bosman (11-12, 3.41) and the A’s. Vern Ruhle (8-10, 3.88) helped his winning cause with a solo home run.

AL East:
The Orioles lead the Red Sox by 5 – both teams were idle
AL West:  The Royals maintain a 10 game advantage on the Angels
