Lockwood Locks Up BoSox Sweep of Twins



American League:
New York 4 at Chicago 9

The White Sox hit five consecutive doubles in a seven-run 5th inning as the teams combine for twelve doubles in the game. Ralph Garr went 4-for-4 for Chicago
Boston 7 at Minnesota 3 (10)
-The Red Sox score two in the 9th and four in the 10th to complete a four game sweep at The Met. Skip Lockwood (6-5, 2.29) followed up his two saves in as many days with two shutout innings of relief and an RBI single in the 10th for the win.
Baltimore 4 at Kansas City 5
-The Royals win four straight one-run decisions over the Orioles in this potential ALCS preview. Frank White’s 14th home run of the season was a grand slam in the 3rd off Jim Palmer (14-11, 3.25).
Cleveland 6 at Texas 7 (10)
-Four Cleveland errors enable the Rangers to rally from 6-1 down to win in extras. Darrell Porter scored the tying run in the 9th on a Duane Kuiper error and drove home the winning run in the 10th
Detroit  10 at California 4
-Rookie Larry Herndon (.274 9HR) went 3-for-4 with a home run and Milt Wilcox (9-14, 4.58) went the distance as the Tigers split four in Anaheim..
Milwaukee 3 at Oakland 2
-Danny Thomas’s two-out single in the 9th drove in Robin Yount for the go-ahead run as the Brewers nip the A’s in Oakland
AL East: The Orioles entered K.C. with a five game lead and leave with just a 1 game edge on the Red Sox
AL West:  The Royals lead by 12 games

National League
San Diego 2 at Montreal 5
-Frank Taveras (36SB) stole three bases and scored twice as Chip Lang (3-5, 3.96) and the Expos take two of three from the Padres
San Francisco 6 at New York 3

Enos Cabell and Glenn Adams had three hits apiece and Jim Barr (10-10, 3.14) pitched seven innings for the win as the Giants take two of three in a matchup of NL cellar dwellars
Los Angeles 7 at Philadelphia 4

The Dodgers keep up with their strong second half of the season with a series win in Philly. Jerry Reuss (14-5, 3.65) with the win and Mike Garman with his 9th save.
Pittsburgh 5 at Atlanta 3
-Dave Giusti (7-6, 2.81) and Kent Tekulve (26Sv, 2.53) combined for four shutout innings of relief and Rennie Stennett (4), Willie Stargell (27) and Tommy Helms (6) homered for Pittsburgh
Chicago 1 at Cincinnati 2 (12)
-It takes George Foster’s 25th home run of the season in the 12th for the Reds to avoid a devastating sweep by the previously free-falling Cubs.
St. Louis 7 at Houston 3
-Reggie Smith (32) and Ted Simmons (21) homered off Mark Lemongello (17-9, 2.58) as Eric Rasmussen (12-9, 2.81) and the Cardinals avoid the sweep in Houston

NL East: The Pirates maintain an 11 game bulge on the Cardinals
NL West: The Astros lead is trimmed back to 3 by the Reds
